It's always nationalism's fault

by Marcello Veneziani
But do you really want us to believe that this is the main problem of our time, in Italy, in Europe and around the world, be the nationalism? From Merkel to Macron, from Soros to Mattarella, from the Uniformed Media and Intellectuals Collective to singers and even astrophysicists, everyone points to nationalism as the main evil to be eradicated, indeed the cause of all present evils. The astrophysicist Rovelli has discovered in nationalism a black hole without equal in the universe...
Even before we ask ourselves about nationalism, its existence and consistency, Let's briefly review the main plagues of the moment and ask ourselves if they have any relationship with nationalism.

Where the moderates are hiding

FIFTH COLUMN

by Marcello Veneziani
But what happened to the moderates, you ask Antonio Polito in the Corriere della Sera? Already, where they went, but if that's why what happened to the liberals, the conservatives, Catholics in politics? Within a short time they disappeared, even though many thought they were the deep majority of the country. Today at a superficial glance, Italy is divided into two main blocks: one wide and low, i radical pop, and one narrow and long, i radical chic.
The former are defined as populists or sovereignists, the latter are the ideological residue of the left, the advanced tip of what remains of the progressives. The liberals they cultivate the private, they worry about the economy as befits them, or they invoke the EU, they connect to Europe. The Catholics they seem extinct from a political point of view, they have no common outlet, as it was at the time of the DC and as it basically was afterwards with the split into popular Catholics, leaning towards the centre-right, and Catholic Dems who leaned towards the centre-left.

France is seething. And now Macron is under siege

paris macron
The yellow vests are in Paris. And the French capital becomes the scene of one of the most violent protests and symbolic of recent years. The Deep France has arrived in the streets of the great French metropolis. A world in revolt, a France light years away from that of the magnificent and progressive fortunes that Emmanuel Macron would like to represent. It is an impoverished country, worried by an economic crisis that seems to have no end, tired of an increasingly distant president incapable of understanding the needs of real France. This France, already hit the streets across the country in the past week, continues his protest. And now he is besieging Macron.
The government's appeals to remain calm were not enough. The march of the yellow vests towards the large Paris demonstration was peppered with fierce criticism, in contro in, but above all by the will of the French government, represented by the Minister of the Interior Christophe Castaner the prime minister gave it Édouard Philippe, to go straight. Paris does not bow to the protesters: that was the message sent from the palaces of power. And now the protest has directly hit the heart of the country, Paris, con 81thousand demonstrators which still paralyze parts of the country and thousands who instead stormed the center of the capital.

Lefebvriani: Don Pagliarani throws himself into Bergoglio's arms…

The new superior Pagliarani was received by Cardinal Ladaria at the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith: there is an "irreducible doctrinal divergence" that cannot be evaded.
«Everything pushes the Fraternity to resume the theological discussion»: the Lefebvrians announce it in a note in which they report that the new superior, Don Davide Pagliarani, was received by the cardinal prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, Luis Ladaria, opportunity to get to know each other, record an "irreducible doctrinal divergence" between Rome and the group founded after the Second Vatican Council by Monsignor Marcel Lefebvre and, precisely, «resume the theological discussion» with the Holy See «well aware that the Good Lord does not necessarily ask him to convince his interlocutors, but to bring the unconditional testimony of faith before the Church".

Italy-EU clash, parla l'economista Bifarini: "E' il momento dell'Italexit"

After the definitive rejection of the maneuver by the European Commission with the prospect of the opening of infringement proceedings against Italy for excessive deficit, Many people are wondering which path to take. At this point, what should be done? Come to terms with Brussels as the Minister of European Affairs Paolo Savona seems to be asking, or move forward with the wall against the wall as Salvini and Di Maio ask instead? And above all, whether or not the time for a definitive break has arrived, perhaps starting that path towards exit from the euro that many have hoped for? The Special he asked the economist Ilaria Bifarini.

It makes sense to still seek an agreement with the European Union on the maneuver?
“I believe at this point that the conditions no longer exist. There is a fury on the part of the European Union towards Italy which is motivated more by ideological and political reasons than by economic issues. The deficit spending envisaged by this maneuver is absolutely in line with what was implemented by previous governments, indeed even lower.

Franco Bechis: “Renzi and Gentiloni have put Italy in trouble”

View source image(by Franco Bechis) – Italy is officially in trouble, because yesterday the European Commission started the procedure for excessive debt. He did this by writing a report 21 pages, which contains a surprise: the formal basis of the dispute has little or nothing to do with the maneuver of the government led by Giuseppe Conte, because it is relative to the result of the public debt over the years 2016 e 2017. So it was Matteo Renzi and Paolo Gentiloni who got Italy into trouble. The infringement procedure is the Democratic Party's last wonderful gift to Italians.
Here is the key passage from that document: “Based on reported data and autumn forecasts 2018 of the Commission, Italy did not respect the debt reduction parameter in 2016 (gap del 5,2% of GDP) or in 2017 (gap del 6,6% of GDP)”. And again: “overall, Italy's lack of compliance with the debt reduction benchmark in 2017 provides evidence of the prima facie existence of an excessive deficit within the meaning of the Stability and Growth Pact, considering all the factors as set out below. Furthermore, based on government plans and autumn forecasts 2018 of the Commission, Italy should not meet the debt reduction benchmark in 2018 or in 2019”.

Maneuver failed, Becchi speaks: "Siamo sotto attacco. E' l'ora dei minibot"

The European Commission has definitively rejected the economic measure and now the process has begun that should lead to the opening of infringement proceedings against Italy for excessive deficit. The "possibilists" make their way in the government, led by the Minister of European Affairs Paolo Savona, that is, those who would be ready to tweak the maneuver to favor a negotiation with Brussels while avoiding the procedure. But at this point the government can afford to go back? No, according to the philosopher Paolo Becchi, interviewed by Lo Speciale.
Minister Savona speaks of a serious situation and seems to be open to possible changes. This is truly the right path?
“I am surprised by some statements put into the mouth of Paolo Savona and which would demonstrate a desire to rewrite the maneuver. I find it very strange that he could have pushed himself to make such decisions. I think the Government shouldn't change anything, because this maneuver represents the minimum wage. If there is a risk of an infringement procedure, the deficit should even be increased, not diminished. I say this because it is not Italy that is in the wrong, but Europe".

Aquarius, accusations of waste trafficking and false information about infected clothing

by Angelo Romano
Illicit waste trafficking. This is the accusation from the Catania Prosecutor's Office, led by Prosecutor Carmelo Zuccaro, towards Doctors Without Borders Belgium and the Netherlands, at the end of the “Bordless” investigation. Others are under investigation with them 12 people: 8 representatives of the NGO in various capacities, First Officer Oleksandr Yurchenko and Aquarius Commander, Eugenii Talanin, and the two shipping agents contacted for waste disposal activities once landed in the ports. The accusation is of having systematically shared, planned and executed an illegal project for the disposal of a large quantity of infectious waste (healthcare and otherwise), produced on the Vos Prudence and Aquarius ships following migrant rescue activities, together with municipal solid waste, on the occasion of technical stops and the disembarkation of migrants, despite the "numerous and documented cases of diseases recorded by the various Maritime Health Offices in Sicily and Southern Italy which intervened at the time of the migrants' arrival in Italian ports" in which they were "detected 5.088 health cases at infectious risk (scabies, meningitis, tuberculosis, AIDS and syphilis) are 21.326 migrants landed". Precisely this last aspect has been highlighted by politicians, institutional representatives and some newspapers that, when they spread the news, they talked about waste at risk of infection, suggesting a potential spread of dangerous epidemics and fueling a new narrative on NGOs: after being referred to as "sea taxis" and accused of "destabilizing” the Italian economy, now they have been accused of being potential plague spreaders.

Queues in front of cinemas, but also protests with rivers of messages for the cities where there is no way to find a hall. Luckily there were no pickets from those who saw the boogeyman everywhere at the entrance to the cinemas, but a creeping boycott, a cultural reluctance, which does not honor Red land – Red Istria, the film about the Istrian martyr Norma Cossetto.
