"Cattolici tra europeismo e populismo. La sfida al nichilismo", the book by Matteo Castagna | lafedequotidiana.it

THE REVIEW
Of Michele M. Ippolito, director of “Daily Faith”
“Catholics between Europeanism and populism. The challenge to nihilism” is the new book by Matteo Castagna (Solfanelli Editions, pages 248, € 17).
Although the author is not a professional historian, Castagna making use of the comparison with the best contemporary theoretical production, try to understand Italian history, Western and Catholic by reducing the unilateral and misleading interpretations of those who tend to smooth over the great conflict between integral Catholicism and modernism, flared up at the end of the nineteenth century, “which then continued in the final conflict between the Pacellian front and Montini's Christian Democratic front, great politician but weak theologian, disciple of Maritain's secularist and globalist ecumenism".
Veronese, married, class 1976, collaborator of Veronanews, Vvox e The Truth, Matthew Castagna, He defines himself as one of the Catholics faithful to Tradition who began to be interested in politics 14 years (until he is elected, In the 1998, as councilor of the third district of Verona, being the youngest in the city).
In this, his first book as a single author, which contains a post by Giacomo Bergamaschi and an array of notable quotations, the final proposal is remembered by Castagna himself: “the models of Italian and Portuguese Fascism intended to oppose a model of modernist and revolutionary civilization through a clear counter-revolution, with the affirmation of a modern counter-reformist political and social culture, not theocratic or merely neo-medieval, aimed at the modern establishment of a Catholic corporatist state".
Castagna defines these two fascisms as neither reactionary nor conservative but traditionalist and counter-revolutionary regimes "that is to say orthodoxly counter-reformist since, although they recognized themselves in the values of tradition, they did not consider it appropriate to restore the old regime sic et simpliciter in the context". He was a priest, Don Ennio Innocenti, theologian and historian, famous radio preacher (his broadcasts entitled “Listen, it's evening"), as well as founder of the “Sacra Fraternitas Aurigarum in Urbe”, to reconstruct Mussolini's path towards faith. He did it with a book, “Dispute over the conversion of Benito Mussolini”, published in Rome in the mid-nineties, precisely from the Fraternitas (via Capitan Bavastro 136, 00154 Roma). Don Ennio Innocenti had dedicated twelve years of research and personal investigations to this unusual story. At first, had revealed what Father Eusebio OFM had confided to him, born Sigfrido Zappaterreni, chief chaplain of the Black Brigades, moved to Argentina after the war and died in Buenos Aires. Several times - this was revealed by Father Eusebio to his brother - he received the sacramental confession of Benito Mussolini. Afterwards, it was another Franciscan who administered it to the Duce, after confessing it himself, the Eucharist. His name was Fra' Ginepro. Read More

Matthew Castagna: "Cattolici tra Europeismo e Populismo" – The challenge to nihilism

Of Lucia Rezzonico
Yesterday, our manager Matthew Castagna premiered his book “CATHOLICS AND BETWEEN Europeanism POPULISM – The challenge to nihilism” (SOLFANELLI editions pag. 243) at the national broadcaster, also visible abroad on satellite, Italy channel, host of the show “News Today” of the conductor Gianluca Versace.
Together with him, a well-known forty-year-old communist from Padua, the commentator Aldo Bianchini, the most conciliar journalist and writer Luciano Lincetto and the area beat singer of a sort “hippie left” Gigi Barrichello.

The guests of yesterday morning's episode: Chestnut, Bianchini, Barrichello, Lynx

It certainly cannot be said that Castagna played “at home”, anything but. But he himself explains to us the reason for choosing to go out with her first presentation in this context: “Today television is still, in Italy, the most used means of communication, as demonstrated by expert data and the audience, very high, obtained from the episode, which was followed by an avalanche of orders for the book. I specify that two types of presentations or conferences can be held: where we talk “in house”, and it is certainly a useful method. But if the aim is to reach those who don't think like you, the means is that of cross-examination. This time I was offered this and I gladly accepted. I have another one, simile, at stake, in Verona and three others, in September. Starting from October I am available for further presentations, always writing to christusrex@libero.it“. Read More
