The political reasons behind Trump's tariffs

The political reasons behind Trump's tariffs
Source: Beyond the Border
The decision of the president of the United States Donald Trump to put duties on steel and aluminum imports it generated strong reactions from many countries. In particular the European states, with Germany in the lead, they invoked the exemption in the name of the alliance that binds the USA to Europe. Trump's move, already anticipated by the New York tycoon during the election campaign, comes after a thorough investigation – requested in April of 2017 by the president himself - to ascertain the causes of the American trade imbalance and prepare appropriate measures to reduce it.
We are, Indeed, in front of a act of an exquisitely "political" nature which aims to protect the United States from the significant overproductive imbalance in the steel sector generated mainly by China. Beijing has caused the growth of imports and the subsequent destruction of US companies in the sector. That is, as well as posing a national security problem for the United States, it has compromised the production capacity aimed at serving the country's strategic industries, also generating negative repercussions on employment levels.
According to the neo-liberal approach, a country specializes in productions in which it has a comparative advantage over others e, if it fails, productions decline and disappear. This rule should, so, also apply to the US steel sector. But the economy is not just about efficiency and productivity, political reasons also have an impact on it. Read More

Jobs Act: from virtual myth to tragedy

Of Luigi Tedeschi
Jobs Act: from virtual myth to tragedy
Source: Italicum

Very little is said about the Jobs Act: it is an obsolete or hidden topic? A virtual Renzian myth has turned into a tragic reality.

Dal 2015, year in which the labor reform called Jobs Act was passed, one and a half million workers were hired on permanent contracts with increasing protections. This legislation provided, for new hires in 2015 the contribution exemption of 100% for businesses. Companies that have benefited from contributory savings for 3 years of 8.000 euros per year. In the 2018 the period foreseen for the total contribution relief expires and therefore, under ordinary regime, the cost of labor for those hired under the Jobs Act will increase by 25 – 30%.

E’ was detected by an INPS report from July 2017, than in the last three years or so 700.000 workers have left companies due to resignation or dismissal. In fact, it should be noted that at the same time as the passing of the Jobs Act, the article was repealed 18 of the Workers' Statute. In case of unlawful dismissal, the worker therefore no longer has the right to reinstatement in the workplace, but only to an indemnity that can be included between 4 and the 24 monthly payment, depending on length of service. E’ it is clear that the repeal of the art. 18 it favored exit flexibility and therefore increased job insecurity. It should also be added that the legislation concerning redundancy payments has been reformulated: those made redundant in new and recurring company crises can only benefit from NASPI, that is, unemployment benefit alone.

There are therefore twenty fewer with the recent labor reform, essential social protection tools for employment. The progressive dismantling of the welfare state is now a fact, occurred following the liberalization of the labor market. Read More

Russian hackers? In reality they are Westerners

Of Fulvio Scaglione
Russian hackers? In reality they are Westerners
Source: Fulvio Scaglione
Am I wrong or does it turn out that the famous and omnipotent Russian hackers, those who had convinced the Americans to elect Donald Trump and the English to send the European Union to that country, they were actually a bespectacled guy born in London in 1975, graduated in History of Art, grew up in advertising environments, landed at Strategic Communications Laboratories (company specializing in behavioral analysis and communication) and from there became director of the affiliate Cambridge Analytica, whose name is Alexander (James Ashburner) Nix? A guy who knows nothing about Russia and who, On the contrary, became important at Strategic etc. ecc. working, among others for the Government and Defense of the United Kingdom, who are not much friends of Russia?
And I'm always wrong or maybe the other Kremlin hacker was the legendary Mark Zuckerberg, father of Facebook, who knew or perhaps didn't know what those tens of millions of profiles that Cambridge etc. were for. ecc. he downloaded from the most famous and popular social network and used it to make his clients win? And now we are hearing the same question from the US Congress, by the English Parliament, from the European Parliament and from the Chinese washerman who irons my shirts: you knew or you didn't know? This Putin... studies them all! Read More

"In Emilia spesi 12 milioni di euro per l'accoglienza dei profughi"

According to the Court of Auditors, In the 2016, the immigrants housed in the structures of Emilia-Romagna were 12.259 and so, according to the Northern League councilor Alan Fabbri every month on average “they were overspent 12 millions of euros for self-styled refugees”
Of Francesco Curridori
“More than 55 euros per day for each asylum seeker, in practice 1.600 euros in a month, like a salary of a skilled worker.
The reception of self-styled refugees in our territory has come to cost this much, among the most expensive in Italy in the immigration business”. These are the figures reeled off by Alan Fabbri, group leader of the Emilia-Romagna League, and which is discussed in the resolution of the Court of Auditors last year 7 March relating to the management of the 'First reception for immigrants'.
“Disproportionate figures to which must be added the cost of managing asylum applications on average 200 euros each. All obviously paid for with taxpayers' money. The Court of Auditors, Now, rejects the Pd's management of the invasion: It's a shame that these data didn't come out before the elections”, underlines Fabbri. In the last three years Emilia has spent more than 55 euros per day in 2013, ben 40,71 euro in 2014 e 33,38 euro in 2015 for each migrant hosted. “Exorbitant figures – attacks the Northern League player – which certify the crazy management of the Renzi and Gentiloni government, fully supported by the governor Stefano Bonaccini, of forced immigration in Italy: dai 1000 ai 1500 euros per month, taken from the pockets of citizens and spent to keep illegal immigrants who support them on our territory, in the vast majority of cases falsely, to escape the war, while our citizens are left alone even when faced with difficult situations, in recent years, they were not missed, like an earthquake, floods and economic crises”. In the 2016, always according to the Court of Auditors, the immigrants housed in the regional structures were 12.259 and that “it means that overspent each month by default 12 million euros for self-styled refugees of which only the 13,5% he then obtained refugee status”, explains Fabbri. Faced with these numbers “it is the Court of Auditors itself that rejects the Pd's management of the invasion: a non-transparent business, without adequate controls which often did not even guarantee dignified standards of living”, adds the Northern League representative. Trump trade war: the bitter lessons of protectionism

Protectionism: Paolo Raimondi talks about it, former undersecretary of the Economy
Report Wall Street Italia
The care of Mario Lettieri* e Paolo Raimondi**
If the United States, the world's leading economic and military power, they launch one protectionist policy imposing high tariffs on imports, they evidently intend to start a real trade war. Trump's recent statements towards China and the European Union are proof of this.
Yet Washington knows that, when similar policies have been introduced in the past, they have only exacerbated the ongoing crises by making them worse international political tensions.
This happened after Wall Street crash of the 1929 resulting in the Great Depression. In the 1930 President Herbert Hoover and, even more, the American Congress, then dominated by the Republican Party, they passed the Smoot-Hawley Tarif Act (from the names of the two parliamentarians who presented it) which imposed heavy duties on over 20.000 imported products.
It was a kind of "America First” which was supposed to relaunch productions, consumption and employment, sbarrando la strada ai prodotti provenienti da altri paesi. It was the negative response to the general appeal made previously, In the 1927, by the League of Nations, precursor of the UN, That, on the contrary, asked to “put an end to the tariff policy and to go in the opposite direction".
Until then the USA had had a positive trade balance, with an export surplus. Duties imposed on goods included in the list, which on average were of 40,1% In the 1929, they reached the level of 59,1% In the 1932, with an increase of 19%. Obviously many studies have been done on these restrictive policies. But no one questions it the recessive and depressive effect caused by duties. Read More

Yitzhak Yosef, rabbino capo d'Israele, ha chiamato i neri "scimmie"

The Anti-Defamation League: “Absolutely unacceptable”. It is not the first time that his words end up at the center of controversy

The Chief Rabbi of Israel called the blacks “monkeys” during his weekly sermon. Yitzhak Yosef's comments have been settled “absolutely unacceptable” by the Anti-Defamation League, a New York organization dedicated to fighting anti-Semitism and racism.
The rabbi used a derogatory Jewish term to describe people of color, before using the word “monkey”, according to the footage published by the site Ynet.
Yosef represents Israel's Sephardic Jews of Middle Eastern and North African origin. It is not the first time that his words end up at the center of controversy. In the past, reports l’Independent, he had said that women behave like animals, when they dress scantily.

The dictatorship of the present

Of Roberto Pecchioli
The dictatorship of the present
Source: Heretically
Ours is an era of false democracy, abstract freedoms and concrete dictatorships. One of these, the most surprising, it is the supremacy of the present, a real dictatorship of the present time. The sole materialist thought knows and idolizes exclusively what belongs to today, and is therefore modern. On other occasions, we have noted that the word modernity means nothing other than "in today's way". It is a term that has always been used with reference to the present, but without emphasis, the positive and idolatrous charge by which he has been surrounded for half a century now. Today's programmatic superiority over yesterday, postulated and implied as evident, it is in fact one of the thousand poisoned fruits of the toxic season that we call Sixty-Eight. Since then, everything boiled down to current events, at the moment, dragging every culture, dresser, costume, history before the grotesque tribunal of the Eternal Present. Strange court indeed, devoid of spatial or territorial jurisdiction, but exclusively temporal with a pre-established deadline at the end of the current day. The next day inevitably drags the present into the past, depriving it of importance; a spell that dissolves at the stroke of midnight, like Cinderella's. A dictatorship that is continually reborn with the new day, a Phoenix that regenerates from its own ashes: fast girl resurgo, since what is valid today is modern and the sun rises every morning. The most obvious victim is the past, burdened by negative prejudice, accused of obscurity and backwardness, but the present, despite the other current myth, that of progress, it also destroys the future.
