It's not just a question of age: the fact is that Silvio Berlusconi is now a man imprisoned in that court which prevents him from any contact with the outside world, if not filtered by that same court which presents him with a distorted vision of reality. That court which in recent days has even put him face to face with the task of a Stefania Prestigiacomo, always a point of reference for Berlusconi in Sicily, who boards a dinghy to go for the walkway on the Sea Watch with other "leftist" parliamentarians.
Berlusconi has a hard core of voters who continue to believe in him for what he represented in the past, but they believe only in him, and they expect him to dictate the line.
THE MOST EUROPEAN OF ALL
This is why it makes sense to present ourselves at the European elections, but he made a mistake when he entrusted the party to Antonio Tajani, president of the european parliament. The most pro-European of all, the one who thinks exactly like the Democratic Party on the euro and immigration, if not even as More Europe. After the dogmatic positions on the EU taken by the Tajani-led party, many have abandoned the blue ship or are doing so and Berlusconi, instead of reflecting, throws digs at Salvini. The world has changed, but for Berlusconi nothing seems to have changed. The strong wind of sovereignism is blowing throughout Europe and him, he himself who founded Forza Italia starts shouting Forza Europa, mocking the Democratic Party.
What a mistake! We are sure they will keep this article from him, because in reality there would still be time to change course, to attempt one last undertaking by building an original and surprising program for the European elections, especially since no party in Italy has proposed one so far. And instead these elections will probably mark its decline and the end of Forza Italia.
HETEROGENESIS OF PURPOSES
If Salvini achieved a result around the European Championships 35 percent (difficult but not impossible), the temptation to go and vote for policies would be enormous. And to policies, with the Lega al 35 per cent and Fratelli d'Italia al 5-6 percent, Salvini would have a clear path towards Palazzo Chigi without carrying Tajani's ballast with him. And the Rosatellum would help him in his endeavor.
Thanks to Tajani, Berlusconi is back in the arms of his executioners, those who placed him in the 2011 with a financial coup. Philosophers call it “heterogenesis of ends”. What Monti and Napolitano were unable to achieve is being achieved by a close court around Tajani, the classic son-in-law full of promise who in the end won't even be able to sell off the silverware.
