It can only be a miracle, nor can the doctors who witnessed Lorenzo Mori's sudden and unexpected awakening know how to explain it differently, 17 years, in a deep coma.
But the most singular aspect is that Lorenzo regained full consciousness just as the doctors were about to subject him to the removal of his organs.
The boy was reduced to very serious conditions following a terrible accident, last 20 December, while he was going to school, riding his scooter: the head-on impact with a Mercedes had thrown him from his scooter, at the intersection of via Da Mosto, viale Cristoforo Colombo and via Pancaldo. Despite the helmet, he had suffered very serious brain and respiratory damage, so much so as to exclude any possibility of recovery. For this reason the parents had agreed to the removal of the organs, but evidently, “Life” had decided differently for him: as he wrote, in recent days, the daily newspaper The Verona Arena: Lorenzo wakes up, opens your eyes, he moves and even speaks. And that's how it is, if five months ago he was considered practically dead, Now he's back at school again.
This episode is yet another demonstration that a coma is not death, contrary to what many doctors think, moreover, in spite of numerous testimonies of sudden awakenings of people who emerged from comas who said that in that state, in which they were practically considered useless zombies, actually they were conscious and aware of everything that was happening around them, coming to listen, understand and hear every speech, every caress, every whispered phrase. In short…they lived! But the moment "science" imposes the label of "vegetable" on an individual, it automatically becomes, in the eyes of some doctors, like a wreck e, Often, it is treated as such.
This and many other episodes, so, as well as real hymns to hope, they also represent a concrete challenge to those who claim to relativize the concept of life, defining it as such only if it manifests itself according to certain patterns and methods. But evidently the facts, reality proves the opposite, that is, that life exists, even when it does not manifest itself in the way our society sick of efficiency would like. Life is life, Always!
