One consideration ecological

The beauty ofItaly, praised as it should be for its history and its art, it is also the result of a fortunate and in some ways desired landscape beauty. A mountainous peninsula that is wedged into the Mediterranean, ending up being a perfect union between sea and mountains. This is demonstrated not only by the countless endemic species, but also the peaks and abysses that Italian athletes have reached, thanks to the experiences made possible by the Peninsula.

Just to name two contemporary and two historical names: Umberto Pelizzari (-131m in freediving in regulated variable weight, -150m in variabile no limits); Simone Moro (winter on the Nanga Parbat at 8126m); Reinhold Messner (the first to climb Everest without the aid of oxygen tanks) and finally Enzo Mallorca (in '61 it exceeds i -50 meters in freediving in constant weight, dispelling the myth that a man's lungs would collapse beyond that depth).

Il landscape, strictly understood, already in pre-unification Italy it was protected and controlled, as well as adapted, respecting it, to human needs. In the Renaissance the Georgofili Academy shaped the current appearance of Tuscany, with its gentle hills and terraces designed in a completely peculiar way to make the water flow as best as possible.

In the Middle Ages the concept of ecology, with the first codexes which prohibited irrational deforestation and the appropriation of resources in a disorderly manner, to avoid impoverishment e, so, direct damage also to humans (without considering Christian ethics, who has always had great respect for Creation and which he generated, just to give an example, the great beauty of Assisi and Umbria). During the Roman era, areas with malaria incidence were reclaimed, as well as truly gigantic water regulation projects were attempted, such as the drying up of Lake Fucino and the very famous Marmore waterfalls in Umbria, the highest in Europe.

All this, always in the DNA of Italians, has been somehow contaminated by aeconomic ideology which does not place man at the centre, but the money. The harmony between man and nature has been broken, according to which man has always dominated his environment, curing it, aware that by damaging him he would have caused himself to be damaged. In that sense, the protection of the ecosystem and the control of pollution are a duty and an asset for man. E, always for this reason, the distinction between 'pollution' and 'global warming' is necessary, and a confusion of the two can only lead to errors.

On the first there is the total human responsibility, and therefore we can and indeed we must act, because it directly jeopardizes our health and that of the ecosystem. Plastics, contaminated groundwater, various industrial waste (chemicals, radioactive etc.), uncontrolled deforestation, intensive exploitation of resources, various spills into the sea and so on.
