Obviously, we ate a fantastic lamb and then a Florentine steak of rare goodness. Because God has made certain animals available to us to feed on their flesh. Some, also for religious custom.

How does it translate? Greta in Easter version? Vegan lunch, as she herself said. Gretism has moved from the squares to the Easter tables and is fueling the civil war of the Lamb. On the one hand, the carnivorous lovers of tradition according to whom there is no Easter without lamb, kid or similar to eat; on the other, the followers of the planetary sect of Gretology, in the vegan name of animalism and lambs' rights. Total exemption of lambs from Easter banquets, sacramental immunity of the kid. That a lamb should die of old age or disease and not of the Passover feast, it is one of the achievements due to the humanization of animals and the parallel animalization of humanity. I can understand someone choosing the vegetarian route; I respect them, anyway it's their business. I understand them less when they want to overturn traditions and put religions on trial, generate collective feelings of guilt, propagate fanaticism that breaks the natural cycle and the food chain. Personally I lean towards a compromise solution: consume the Easter lamb but with royal pasta. Thus the lamb in flesh and blood is saved, and the rite of the Paschal lamb as well. Although I find it frustrating for the lamb to no longer be the center of Easter attention, miss his day of glory, even if it ended up in the pan, and return to banal marginality. Unless he feels like some kind of political refugee, albeit exploited by political correctness. With the added annoyance of having herbivorous competitors in vegan converts.
But beyond Easter a mystery remains unsolved, which is an injustice. Because if you go to the bar you will find the vegan croissant, if you go to the supermarket you will find the line for vegans, if you go to restaurants you will find vegan foods, and instead if you are diabetic you can't find a blessed fig? Why a dietary choice, a belief, sometimes a trend, find ample space in our shops and instead a disease, a state of necessity, which affects millions of people, has no place in our society? Don't put forward market reasons because they would also apply to the wider target of diabetics. It's an ideological choice, it is an extension of the global ideology of Gretology. It is dietary correct, It's food bergogism, it is animalism as the religion of humanity.
The food theme, as you well know, it is not marginal but it is central today. If you travel around Italy or if you browse the television channels, you notice a massive phenomenon, pervasive, exaggerated: the overwhelming prevalence of food. I don't know how else to group the multiple food places that pop up across cities: pizzerias, kebab, sushi-bar, Chinese stuff, ethnic cuisine, street food, focacciaries, sandwich shops, ice cream parlors, ovens, restaurants, trattorias. As soon as a store closes, a library, a feed shop immediately appears in its place (for men and beasts, the difference narrows). Surrounding it are those supermarkets open 24 hours a day where you can turn to in case of hunger after hours, withdrawal symptoms or nocturnal hypoglycemia. With some perversions: find dog foods, cats as well as for vegans, but almost never foods for real pathologies, not just diabetics.
Then go home, zap between channels and programs with chefs, gastronomy competitions, nutrition guru, incompetent amateurs, that invade every network, they make you gain weight right away, they create psycho-visual indigestion, virtual binges of food and dishes, plus a lot of theory and phenomenology of the full belly. Even conversations now focus on the best foods and restaurants, or as retaliation, on diets and physical fitness. Even a fearsome sect has arisen, I was raw.
Walking through the streets of the historic Roman center is impressive, among magnificent churches, ancient temples and sacred ruins and finding fried smells, smells of ketch-up, file mangerecce. And to attract tourists to the restaurants, timeless carbonare displays, stuffed pizzas, boxes of fettuccine reduced to fatty art installations... The streets are dripping with cholesterol, there is no corner that is not filled with pockets of fat and bags of rubbish, which are largely the same post-mortem foods. In the historic center, children's waste&b savages are sown on the street, in a kind of Choral Digestion, of mass tourist evacuation. And bottles, bottles everywhere, and cans and scraps of pizzas and cartons that contained them. To counteract the sins of gluttony, gyms and centers are springing up everywhere to get back into shape or rather to lose fat and be ready to recharge with food. So the cycle is complete and we pay twice, to binge and lose weight, reducing life to a corridor between the kitchen and the toilet, a house reduced to a digestive tract. Bulimia is commercially planned and makes you gastro-dependent. Then you complain about growing obesity, of deformed bodies. Both spiritual and clinical values have disappeared. Decorum goes down, triglycerides rise. From ethics to pork rind.
There is a connection between this general magna-magna and urban and moral degradation, political and social corruption, the tele-web stupidity of our country? There is a relationship between binging as a mass greedy imperative and the absence of past and future that characterizes us, there is a relationship between fast food and reset mind (translated into Neapolitan: Full belly and vacant head)? The fall of ancient Rome occurred amid banquets and indigestion, eat, vomit to eat again, fatness half beauty. The magnates subdued the Romans more than the barbarians. Now here we go again. Never before has Rome been the mirror and blow-up of Italy, the Capital of Lard Domestic Product. Rome passed from the Sette Colli to the Quattro Formaggi. But the conscience of humanity is saved thanks to vegans. The future for Greta is only a vegetable soup.
