Misery and Freedom

FIFTH COLUMN

The echo of the 25 April, with Mattarella's warning not to trade freedom for order. The only true one rings in my ears, sensible objection to the opinions expressed here on the 25 April: as the anti-fascist Vittorio Foa reminded the fascist Giorgio Pisanò, today you are free to speak because we won the 25 April. Even more true in the mouth of Vittorio Foa who was an anti-fascist against the prevailing regime, ended up in prison, he was not a posthumous anti-fascist, when it was easy and advantageous to be so.
But I would like to understand what happens to freedom now, how it is conceived and experienced today by ordinary people. That is, I would like to test drive Mattarella's declamations on freedom or in the name of Foa. I try to put the noise about the Resistance and anti-fascism on silent mode and focus on present and current freedom. But what is this absolute value today, Freedom, which should not be exchanged either for order or for any other good or principle? How the vaunted freedom is actually understood and practiced by ordinary people, come on guys, from the opinion factories of today?
I walked around alone among the people on holidays, il 25 April, I could hear the conversations in the bars or the kids perched on their scooters, I smoked a cigar in a secluded corner where the kids were smoking joints and there was a coming and going of immigrants. I listened to their chatter and it reminded me of other conversations I had already heard elsewhere. Languages change, but not the horizons. And in the end I feel like I can answer the question this way, what is it freedom for the people, for young people, for current opinion? It's the freedom to do whatever I feel like doing, that goes around in my head; freedom is having no limits, except the cheap ones, get rid of rules, moral obligations and boundaries, free your desires, live as I like, I am what I want to be; without following any prescription, no tradition, no rules. Even if then, in fact, follow fashion, i trend, conditioned reflexes, the consumption conveyed, prefabricated opinions. And then, nothing to think about, only things to buy.
In the end also the great humanitarian and moralistic speeches that are set up on the subject of hospitality, of sexual freedom, of homosexual or LGBT rights, of cannabis liberalization and so on they end up there, are translated into current practice and daily life with this broad sense, unlimited, small change, single and raucous, of freedom. But yes, everyone can do what they want, if he wants to leave his country or his family he is free to do so and should be welcomed in any case, even if it is not in order; if he wants to use substances and have sex as he prefers, except for some technical precautions, he is free to do so; if you want to change sex, nature, intended use of his life and his ties, in progress, shirk parental responsibilities, of a child or another, he has the right to do so. This is freedom, in pure will, right to change and deny, Don't set limits to your desires, only avoiding committing the crimes; but even in that case there is indulgence, there is social and judicial justification, prisoners must be understood and even praised, as the Paschal Pope showed; they must stay inside as little as possible, the prisons are full, it is useless to arrest criminals. We didn't say that freedom should not be traded for protection, with safety, as Mattarella also remembered? In short, that precious and absolute good for which we are ready to sacrifice everything else, every principle, wedding ring, link, truth, responsibility, it is this freedom. Everyone lives as they want, even if the old aunts of the past would have called them Convenient Pigs. But every day TV and the media tell us the rainbow rosary; I even saw a sort of trans-homo-LGBT carnival in a séance at the Maurizio Costanzo show, with its revived stars, repeat these Sacred Principles, “The important thing is to feel good about myself” and so on repeating the repertoire of libertarian banalities, libertine, libertose.
So I go back to Foa and say: but this was the freedom he fought for and ended up in prison, This is the freedom for which we must be grateful and to which we sacrifice every other principle? It's this one, President Mattarella, the freedom that we must not trade either for order or for love of country, nor – I add- with the religious sense or the sense of family, with respect for tradition, the love of beauty and greatness, which cost sacrifice? No, I do not want to attribute the current and reckless use of freedom to the Founding Fathers nor to the Fighting Partisans. If I really have to look for roots I can go back to '68, to consumerism, but we are not interested here.
The historical fault of those who today praise freedom above all else is not seeing the use that is made of it and not understanding that there is a connection between Freedom as an Absolute Good and this miserable omnipotence. Because if freedom has no limits, it has no counterweights, he has no principles, she shouldn't be polite, it has no order or protection, then he grows up in that uncivilized way, bestial, pathological. It is true, we usually criticize ideological fur, historical and political freedom and we attack the radical left, migrationist, catho-humanitarian, all heart food, at least in words. But on closer inspection, the greatest freedom, more practiced, it's this stuff right here, it is the Religion of Kazzimiei, a plebeian divinity who represents Freedom to the highest degree as the absence of limits and uneducated law, peeled from duties and combined with desires. You like this Freedom? It disgusts me a little.
