Benetton Maletton

FIFTH COLUMN
Of Marcello Veneziani
The Benettons not only produced sweaters and managed highways but were the first local factory of global ideology. They were not only sponsors but also precursors of the ideological alphabet, symbolic and sentimental of the left. They were the bridge, it's worth saying, between the multinational interests of global capitalism and the Americanization of the planet, with their profits and their marketing and anti-racism messages, against sexism, in favor of society without borders, lgbt, transgressive and progressive. Their campaigns, entrusted to Oliviero Toscani, they tried to unite the shock side, which often bordered on bad taste and a punch in the stomach, with the progressive humanitarian message: multiracial society, without borders, without distinctions of sex, of religions, of ethnic groups and peoples, with special attention to minors. Remove barriers everywhere, except at toll booths, where it comes to taking tolls. Benetton recently also carried out humanitarian campaigns on immigrant boats and launched a video "against all resurgent racism". The connection between sermons on the skin of the desperate and selling sweaters or charging cars tolls is mysterious. Read More

Count of miracles

FIFTH COLUMN
Of Marcello Veneziani
He will be a walk-on, but Giuseppe Conte makes an impression at Palazzo Chigi. So far in his seventy-day trip around the world he has never made a mistake, a phrase, a statement. The only gaffe belongs to his previous life, when he wrote CVs to bulk up a bit. Now there's no more need to argue, in two months he created an enviable CV, reality surpasses rumor. In his speeches perhaps he will keep to the obvious, on the generic, doesn't decide much, it merely entertains, repeat, simulate; but the little he said and the very little he did, he said it and he did it well, without ever going unbalanced. He kept himself on edge with a prodigious balancing act, than even the tightrope walkers at village festivals, those that in our Puglia we called tarall'e Zucchere. He managed not to displease Di Maio, Salvini and Mattarella, indeed he gave the impression of agreeing with each of them. It is Padre Pio's last miracle to demonstrate that nothing is impossible, even that a Count suddenly becomes prime minister, without firing a shot. And don't be attacked by anyone, print included. The League of Brothers of Italy

FIFTH COLUMN
Of Marcello Veneziani
When Salvini and Meloni were not yet born, was born in Italy, from the womb of The Bourgeois, the League of Brothers of Italy. The father was naturally Leo Longanesi. He dreamed of giving birth a national movement, conservative, popular and bourgeois, that he wasn't neo-fascist, liberal let alone Christian Democrat. But it was seriously post-fascist, since he noticed Longanesi: “Our democracy has only one evil, there is only one defect: that of existing as an opponent of fascism; to live it finds no other justification than that of fighting a dead fascism with Mussolini. Thus we witness a struggle of vertical corpses against a horizontal corpse.". Fantastic. It was the 1955 e 63 years later we are at the same point, even with the grillini in government.
Then and now, there was a need to invent oneself, a movement that represented a large and excluded world, or poorly represented, antagonist to the left, to clericalism and progressivism. We were in the Christian Democratic era, the communists had not yet been admitted into the antechamber of governments, Regions did not exist, Italy was recovering greatly at least in terms of well-being, he had found an acceptable compromise with the past based on oblivion, there was an economic boom and Italians were giving birth a lot, especially in the south. What should we say now, that the world has changed, we are in the European Union, debt is skyrocketing, the regions have destroyed us, we are full of migrants and empty of young people and elites, Italy is duller than then, they no longer have children and the dead outnumber those born? That we need a League of the Brothers of Italy... But the League exists and, if within a month the mood of this psychotic country still doesn't change, it is now even the first party. At his side, small and vainly looking for his visibility and his role, there is what remains of AN and the MSI, called Brothers of Italy, actually led by a sister from Rome, good and incisive on TV. Who from Rai hurts, of Rai perishes

Of Marcello Veneziani
Who from Rai hurts, of Rai perishes
Source: Marcello Veneziani
I don't know how the drama about the president of Rai will end, if Foa will remain at the helm anyway, perhaps as a senior advisor as happened in 2004 to Berlusconi's Alberoni or if Giampaolo Rossi takes over from him, competent in RAI and new media, in discontinuity with the previous Rai domination and in harmony with Foa's ideas. Maybe we'll figure it out today. But on a political level one thing can already be said: the final veto on a signature of Il Giornale as president of Rai is the worst conclusion of Berlusconi's parable. End up in resentment, burning Foa, align with the PD and the scattered left, separate from the League and the Brothers of Italy, only show the ability to cause failure, it is a miserable epilogue for Berlusconi. That decline that has been going on for years now, has reached a point of no return and breaking of B. with his people and his allies.
Nobody expected Forza Italia to align itself with the yellow-green government. That's right, and even useful, that Forza Italia maintains a critical line towards the economic choices of the Grillini, Di Maio's reforms, amateurism and underlying punitive pauperism, the grillosinistri type Fico or the half socks in power, genus Raggi. That opposition line responds to the nature of his voters, to the mandate received and to its economic and political line.

The physicist against the homelands

FIFTH COLUMN
Of Marcello Veneziani
Even the physicist Carlo Rovelli wanted to align himself with the Permanent Theme: attack patriotism because it turns into nationalist poison, Nazi and racist, and sing praises to humanity without borders. He wrote a long article yesterday in Corriere della Sera entitled "The only nation is humanity".
But why do we have to translate love of country with its violent and racist degeneration, it is not possible to love and protect your own nation, their civilization without degrading into xenophobia and racism? When we talk about religion, perhaps we reduce it to fanaticism and religious persecution? When we talk about family, of paternal love, maternal branch, we must necessarily reduce it to the abuses and abuses sometimes committed in its name? And changing sides, because when we talk about equality we don't immediately associate it with the memory of the Jacobin Terror or the horrors of communism in all its regimes? Or when we talk about freedom we perhaps reduce it to the abuses of freedom that lead to violence, to drugs, to oppression and arbitrariness?
The patriotic love, the natural and cultural bond with one's nation and its traditions, it is a fundamental need of the human soul and belongs to every era and every civilization. There are various ways of understanding that bond. Today, the most coherent way is not to close oneself in armed tribes against each other, but integrate nations into broader contexts, like Europe, and recognize mutual legitimacy and value of nations, yours like mine. But you can love humanity starting from your own city, from their own land, from your country. Feel solidarity starting from those who are closest to those who are further away. Read More

Foa, the monster of the week

Of Marcello Veneziani
But don't be ashamed to accuse the government in office and Salvini in particular, Of divide up the appointments as you have practiced all your life? Don't be ashamed – you leftists, you left-wing intellectual clergy, you left-wing newspapers and news, you seasoned Rai trade unionists and you more hypocritical and pompous right-thinking crypto-leftists – to cry scandal and be indignant just because the Grillini and the Northern League members, in modo naive, they follow the ways of subdivision that you have been practicing with servile professionalism for decades? On the contrary, in Renzi's time we even had to regret the usual division, because he took everything, on Rai and beyond. This time the rock of the scandal was Marcello Foa, came from the Giornale di Montanelli and then remained at the Giornale di Feltri until he moved to the Canton of Ticino to teach communication science and manage a Ticino publishing group. Never been involved in politics, no blemish on his criminal record or reputation, no suspicious connection. Nothing scandalous. But for the valiant Italian Information Collective plus Pd, starting with the Corazzata Repubblika, Foa says he is a student of Montanelli (a boaster, so), teaches manipulation of news i.e. fake news and not communication science, he is even a guest on Russia Today and therefore is a hired servant in Putin's service, he even retweeted something by one Francesca Totolo, “patriot financed by Casa Pound” (which notoriously has billions, other than poor Renzi with his little paper plane, at our expense, which cost a few hundred million). The enemies of Christian civilization

A masterful article by someone who is not Catholic, but it comes with the observation of reality, reason and culture, to describe the truth. (n.d.r.)

Of Marcello Veneziani
Christian civilization today has three enemies: the Islamic invasion, atheistic materialism and Bergoglio's church. In different ways and degrees they are uprooting the seed of Christianity from our lives, the link with its symbols, with his wedding ring and his tradition. They detest any attempt to give visibility and centrality to the Christian message, they can't stand the crucified in public places, they are indignant if someone raises the problem of safeguarding their living space, its cities, its rites and liturgies.
The former want to replace a religion that they feel is declining with theirs and submit Christianity to Islam. The second wants to erase every trace of spirituality and of religious presence from the public horizon for reduce man to his desires and his selfishness. The third wants to reduce Christian civilization to a place of welcome, humanitarian corridor, to the point of losing every living trace of Christianity. The first comes from below, from the south of the world, from boats and NGOs. The second comes down from above, from the great factories of atheism and nihilism that nest in the media, in the consumer society, in the sanctuaries of finance and ideology. Read More

Guareschi, del '68 se ne fece un baffo

Of Marcello Veneziani

Like today (yesterday for those reading, n.d.r.), fifty years ago, in the fateful '68, he went to the other world Giovannino Guareschi. He left the small world that few had described, to reach the big world, the one where that Lord lived who in his House gave advice to one of his fiery dependents on earth, Don Camillo. At least that's what Guareschi says.

He left early, Giovannino, a 60 years, after a troubled life, between concentration camp, prison under fascism and anti-fascism, plus a host of books translated all over the world, of very popular films that represented that fabulous post-war Italy, and adventures in the press, like his impertinent Candide who played a decisive role in the defeat of the social-communist popular front in the 1948 elections.
Giovannino died on 22 July '68 but he had time to write his last Don Camillo dedicated to today's young people. The book was released posthumously and marked the striking contrast between the old communist Peppone (that the anti-communist Guareschi had made sympathetic with his irrepressible humanity), the tough Don Camillo and a young, beardless protester, who was traveling on a motorbike with studded and fringed bags and a black jacket with a skull and the words "Veleno". Which becomes the boy's nickname for Guareschi and also the metaphor of the protest. "The Chinese" also arrive in the town of Brescello and upset the ideological geometries of the Italian-Stalinist Peppone and also displace the religious ones of the parish priest. Guareschi links the protest to the advent of the consumer societyi. For him the antagonism between the two phenomena is only occasional, related, not substantial. Consumerism devours the small ancient world and the old faiths, but he catches Peppone who leaves his bike and rides in a red spider. Consumerism is the habitat of 1968. Read More
