Interview with Marcello Veneziani by Alessandro Rico for La Verità
Marcello Veneziani is one of the most brilliant right-wing intellectuals in our country. With the Truth he had a wide-ranging conversation about populism, sovereignism, Europe, center-right crisis.
Everyone talks about it, many inappropriately. But what is populism, Professor Veneziani?
Populism is the elementary school of new politics.
Effective but cryptic. Explain it to me better?
Populism starts from the discomfort of people who feel dispossessed of the power to decide, cornered by the oligarchies. And he reacts by bringing back the question of the centrality of the people. Read More

Solzhenitsyn, from the gulag to oblivion

by Marcello Veneziani
«All beginnings are infinitely difficult, when the simple word must move the inert boulder of matter. But there is no other way if all matter is no longer yours, it is no longer ours. Even a scream can cause an avalanche in the mountains". As a boy these words of Alexander Solgenitsyn they encouraged me to think that the task of waking up the world was not impossible. I think back today, just one hundred years after his birth and ten after his death, with moved amazement at Solzhenitsyn's cry and the avalanche he had created. Read More

Black facet

FIFTH COLUMN
by Marcello Veneziani
A few days ago in Cape Verde I was boarding from the airport on the island of Sal. Since I was Italian, a black Cape Verdean with a shining white smile made a point of telling me that that airport had been built by Mussolini.

The curse of Montecitorio

FIFTH COLUMN

by Marcello Veneziani

Once upon a time, Montecitorio was the antechamber of the Quirinale. Saragat, Gronchi, Leone, Pertini, Napolitano, before becoming presidents of the Republic, were presidents of the Chamber. Then, at some point, we entered the era of the Camera Obscura. That is, the curse of Montecitorio's presidency: whoever became president then disappeared from the political scene or ended up on the margins. It was like this for many, from Violante to Bertinotti, from Pivetti to Casini to Fini, now at Boldrini. And the same thing basically goes for Palazzo Madama.
But there is one additional curse which now captures the latest presidents: they contract a disease that I would define as omnipresidency delusion, institutional variant of the delusion of omnipotence. And they start to freak out, to cross over from a presidency of the Chamber to a presidency of the council up to touching the presidency of the republic, they all regularly throw themselves to the left of the left, receiving the applause of encouragement from the Grossi Giornali which is always a viaticum of bad omen. And after the parable of glory and cotillons they sink.

Violence and rhetoric against women

FIFTH COLUMN

by Marcello Veneziani
What are demonstrations for?, the deafening campaigns, the painted faces and the world days against violence suffered by women? Judging by the results they are of no use. For years there has been a crescendo of feminist mobilization, of extraordinary media attention, of special laws against sexist sexism and violence against women, there is even the aggravating circumstance of feminicide compared to a “simple” assassination. And for years the crimes committed against women have not decreased, in fact they seem to be worsening. Some will say that today violence against women is reported while yesterday it was not, and for this reason they seem to be growing. But the discussion collapses if we refer to the murderers of women, which were obviously recorded yesterday as today and have certainly not decreased over the years, On the contrary. The uncertainty and fragility of the male role, autonomy and female emancipation, they trigger crazy reactions in the weakest minds, usually homicidal but also suicidal, which in a "male chauvinist" society were less frequent.

It's always nationalism's fault

by Marcello Veneziani
But do you really want us to believe that this is the main problem of our time, in Italy, in Europe and around the world, be the nationalism? From Merkel to Macron, from Soros to Mattarella, from the Uniformed Media and Intellectuals Collective to singers and even astrophysicists, everyone points to nationalism as the main evil to be eradicated, indeed the cause of all present evils. The astrophysicist Rovelli has discovered in nationalism a black hole without equal in the universe...
Even before we ask ourselves about nationalism, its existence and consistency, Let's briefly review the main plagues of the moment and ask ourselves if they have any relationship with nationalism.

Where the moderates are hiding

FIFTH COLUMN

by Marcello Veneziani
But what happened to the moderates, you ask Antonio Polito in the Corriere della Sera? Already, where they went, but if that's why what happened to the liberals, the conservatives, Catholics in politics? Within a short time they disappeared, even though many thought they were the deep majority of the country. Today at a superficial glance, Italy is divided into two main blocks: one wide and low, i radical pop, and one narrow and long, i radical chic.
The former are defined as populists or sovereignists, the latter are the ideological residue of the left, the advanced tip of what remains of the progressives. The liberals they cultivate the private, they worry about the economy as befits them, or they invoke the EU, they connect to Europe. The Catholics they seem extinct from a political point of view, they have no common outlet, as it was at the time of the DC and as it basically was afterwards with the split into popular Catholics, leaning towards the centre-right, and Catholic Dems who leaned towards the centre-left.

The war between the populists

By Marcello Veneziani
The yellow-green government enjoys broad general consensus and broad particular dissent. Don't take me for crazy, it is pure reality. If you see the polls, remains firm around the 60% electoral political consensus in government, with the only difference of an internal transfer in favor of the League and to the detriment of the 5 Star movement.

Scandalous Pound

Of Marcello Veneziani
Marcello Veneziani held the 16 November 2018, at the Goldoni Theater in Venice, a conversation about Ezra Pound, before the theater show Ezra in the cage”. We publish a summary of it.
Here is the Poet. He's crazy, it's cursed, it is prophetic, he is a martyr to his vision, he is silent, it is hieratic, it is a sacred animal. He had all these requirements Ezra Pound which also had a face, the gaze and aura of the poet. In fact they considered him crazy and locked him in a mental hospital for thirteen years. They caged him and then interned him because he was cursed, on the wrong side. He was a prophet in the delirium of his poetic and political visions, and in his condemnation of usury. It then closed in a long, profound silence, like a defeated oracle, locked in the mysteries of Eleusis, when did the time for silence come?.
