To what extent the international community's approach towards Israel has reversed over the last half century, it can be measured simply by looking at the fate of a single word: Zionism. In the 1975 to the United Nations General Assembly, much of the world turned against the United States and Europe by declaring that Zionism, the ideology behind Israel, “It is a form of racism and racial discrimination”.
Westerners were generally shocked. Zionism, that they had told him up to that point, it was a liberation movement that needed the Jewish people to free themselves, after centuries of oppression and massacres suffered. With his creation, of Israel, they had simply made up for the terrible wrongs they had suffered which culminated in the horrors of the Holocaust. But Zionism looked very different in the eyes of those countries that, all over the world, they had lived through centuries of European colonialism and then, more recently, of US imperialism.
