Political Theology 134. True political and social harmony

The concord – teaches Pope Pius XII in «of the Eastern Church», 9.4.1944 – «It requires unity of faith, unity of love (towards God and towards others), unity of obedience". In the same place he states: «It's not legal, not even under color of making harmony easier, dissimulate not even a single dogma: since, as the Alexandrian Patriarch warns [Saint Cyril of Alexandria, ndR]: “Desiring peace is certainly the greatest and most important of goods, However, for this reason we must not pretend that the virtue of Christ's piety is involved”. Therefore it does NOT lead to the much desired return of the errant to sincere and right unity in Christ, that theory which places only those heads of doctrine as the foundation of the unanimous consensus of the faithful, on which all or at least most of the Communities, who boast of the name Christian, they agree; ma [leads to Christ] the other that, without excluding or diminishing any of them, it fully accepts any truth revealed by God [and by the Church defined, ndR]».
This infallible sentence of the Pontiff is an explicit condemnation of the system of ecumenism (cfr. «Church condemnations of ecumenism»).
Pope Pius IX in «If the Divine Master» (15.11.1877) he asserts: «You must maintain with Us a perfect unanimity of thoughts and works to counter the efforts of impiety and rebellion, repudiating every extraneous investigation and dispute. Guided by this prudent determination, you will welcome with docility and reverent respect, and you will accurately execute the Documents and advice of this Holy See, and in this way you will easily avoid the frequent pitfalls of those, who are wise in their own eyes and arogant to the arbitrary mission of advising and persuading what they recklessly think should be done to bring about order and peace, not a few of Our children, even among those most devoted to Us, enticed by the splendor of ingenuity and doctrine, little by little they move away from the usual reverence for Our admonitions: and thereby breaking the unanimity, divide the Catholic forces, that they should, unite, stand up to enemies. We therefore pray to God that he will always make you continue to fight for justice with Us and according to the advice of this Chair of truth, and thus deserve the graces necessary in such a difficult fight and finally achieve the reward prepared for fighters for such a cause".
Pope Leo XIII teaches in the «Immortal Gods» (1.11.1885): «How many there are worthy of the name of Catholics, it is essential that they are and openly show themselves to be loving children of the Church: that they reject themselves, without hesitation at all, everything that is irreconcilable with this profession: that the political orders dictate, as honestly it can be done, in defense of the cause of truth and justice: that they strive to ensure that freedom never crosses borders, assigned by the laws of Nature and God: that they work to make the present society turn towards the ideal of the Christian Society". A clear condemnation of so-called secularism. Read More

Melanchthon's mother on the verge of death

Melanchthon's mother – the latter was one of the most famous disciples of the damned Luther – she had been dragged by her son into the alleged Lutheran Reformation. Reached the end of his days, he sent for the supposed reformer, and in that supreme moment he questioned him solemnly: «My son, recommended by you, I abandoned the Catholic Church to embrace the new religion. Ora, that I am about to appear at the Tribunal of God, tell me frankly in what faith I must die". Melanchthon lowered his head, after silence, and said: «My mother, Protestant doctrine is easier, but the Catholic one is safer".
(Audi, Life of Luther, III, pag. 288 – Quoted by Mons. From Segur – A Catholic can become a Protestant?)

Political doctrine of the Popes: Charity in «Notre charge apostolique»

Dalla Our apostolic charge, 25 August 1910, Pope Saint Pius X: “Dunque il Sillon (the so-called French Christian Democracy, ndR) sows erroneous and harmful notions about authority among your Catholic youth, on freedom and obedience. […] The same happens with the notion of brotherhood, of which they establish the basis in the love of common interests, or, beyond all philosophies and all religions, in the simple notion of humanity, thus understanding all men with all their miseries in the same love and equal tolerance, both intellectual and moral as physical and temporal. Well, Catholic doctrine teaches us that the first duty of charity does not consist in tolerating erroneous beliefs, however sincere they are, nor in the theoretical or practical indifference to the error or vice in which we see our brothers immersed, but in zeal for their intellectual and moral improvement, no less than for their material well-being. This same Catholic doctrine also teaches us that the source of love for neighbor is found in the love of God, common father and common goal of the entire human family, and in the love of Jesus Christ, of which we are the members to the point that consoling an unhappy person is equivalent to doing good to Jesus Christ himself. Every other love is an illusion or sterile and fleeting feeling. Read More

Dictionary of dogmatic theology. Habitual Grace

Habitual grace is a divine gift infused by God into the soul and by its nature permanent. Habitual grace, in a narrow sense, it is that infused in the essence of the soul and is also called sanctifying and justifying grace, as it confers holiness and makes those who were sinners righteous. In a broader sense, habitual grace, in addition to sanctifying grace, it also includes the virtues and gifts of the Holy Spirit, which are like a ramification of sanctifying grace and invest the faculties of the soul. The Scholastics, starting from the data of Revelation, they had developed a copious doctrine around habitual grace, with the help of the Aristotelian theory of clothes. Ma (the perverse) Luther, he opposed this theory due to his nominalistic mentality, he rejected all traditional doctrine, reducing sanctifying grace to an extrinsic divine favor or to an extrinsic imputation of Christ's holiness to the sinner, which remains intrinsically corrupt and incurable (v. Lutheranism). Protestants follow the path of the master up to our times (…). bath (v. Bayanism) conceives grace dynamically, i.e. only actual, and identifies it with morally good and healthy activity, i.e. with the observance of divine precepts, That, according to him, it is only possible with grace, integrative element of the creature. First xii: The Decalogue, the fight against sin, the damage of quietism

• The Church (…) has always continued along the same path, and even today it does not proceed differently. Who does not know how Our Predecessor Pius, of holy memory, opened widely to the faithful, and especially to children, the doors to the Eucharistic sources of grace? However, it would be a disastrous illusion to believe that the efficacy of the sacrament, the work done, dispense souls from cooperation in procuring their salvation. One of the effects of the Holy Eucharist, "like an antidote, by which we are freed from our daily sins, and let us be preserved from mortal sins" (Conc. Trident. Sess. Chapter XIII. 2), it consists precisely in giving strength to fight against sin. The life of the Christian, which is informed by the example of Christ, it is a life of fighting against the devil, the world and the flesh. Indulging in quietism has never been a good thing, and a good thing (non) it's today, less than ever, in the Church as a society, and in the religious life of any person. May the faithful, who hear the word of God from the pulpits, open their spirits with avid desire to the knowledge of truth and supernatural life, that is offered to them; but this knowledge must be followed by the observance of the commandments and that, persevering in good works, may they grow and be strengthened in grace. • It is not our intention to encourage harsh rigorism. Prayer of Saint Peter Canisius to preserve the true faith (27.4 e 21.12)

+ I confess aloud for my salvation everything that Catholics have always rightly believed in their hearts. I abominate Luther, I hate Calvin, I curse all heretics; I don't want to have anything in common with them, because they neither speak nor hear aright, and they do not possess the only rule of true Faith proposed to us by the only one, santa, Catholic, apostolic and Roman Church. Instead, I join in communion, I embrace faith, I follow religion and approve the doctrine of those who listen to and follow Christ, not only when he teaches in the Scriptures but also when he judges at the mouth of the Ecumenical Councils and defines at the mouth of the Chair of Peter, testifying it with the authority of the Fathers. I also profess myself a son of that Roman Church which the impious blasphemers despise, they persecute and abominate as if it were anti-Christian; I do not depart from his authority at any point, nor do I refuse to give my life and shed my blood in its defense, and I believe that the merits of Christ can procure my salvation or the salvation of others only in the unity of this same Church. I profess with frankness, with Saint Jerome, to be united with those who are united to the Chair of Peter and I protest, with Saint Ambrose, to follow in everything that Roman Church which I respectfully recognize, with Saint Cyprian, as the root and mother of the universal Church. I rely on this Faith and doctrine that I learned as a child, as a young man I confirmed, as an adult I have taught and that so far, with my weak power, I defended. There is no other reason that drives me to make this profession other than the glory and honor of God, awareness of the truth, the authority of the canonical Holy Scriptures, the sentiment and consensus of the Fathers of the Church, the testimony of the Faith that I must give to my brothers and finally the eternal salvation that I await in Heaven and the bliss promised to the true faithful. If it happens that because of this profession of mine I am despised, mistreated and persecuted, I will consider it as an extraordinary grace and favor, because that will mean that you, my God, you give me the opportunity to suffer for justice and because you don't want those people to be benevolent to me, as open enemies of the Church and of Catholic truth, they cannot be your friends. However, forgive them, Gentleman, so long as, or because they were instigated by the devil and blinded by the glimmer of a false doctrine, they don't know what they are doing, or they don't want to know. Grant me this grace anyway, that in life and in death I always bear an authoritative testimony of the sincerity and loyalty that I owe to you, to the Church and to the truth, may I never distance myself from your holy love and may I be in communion with those who fear you and who guard your precepts in the holy Roman Church, to whose judgment I submit myself and all my works with a prompt and respectful soul. All the saints who, either triumphant in Heaven or militant on earth, they are inextricably united with the bond of peace in the Catholic Church, may they exalt your immense goodness and pray for me. You are the beginning and the end of all my goods; Praise be to you in all respects, everlasting honor and glory. So be it. +
[27 April. San Pietro Canisio, Priest of the Society of Jesus, Confessor and Doctor of the Church, which passed to the Lord on the twenty-first of December].
