To win the game in Libya, Italy must ally itself with Putin

Image results for Salvini and Putin
In the crisis in Libya, Italy has a rival, the France, and an ally, the United States. But there is another actor, fundamental and until now on the sidelines, which can be decisive in resolving the conflict: the Russia.
Another base for the Mediterranean
Although the world's attention on Russian operations is naturally focused on Syria, Libya represents a fundamental point in the Kremlin's Mediterranean agenda. For Moscow, il Mediterranean represents the natural outlet towards the Atlantic. Controlling or in any case guaranteeing the presence in the Mediterranean therefore translates into the ability to emerge from the shell of the Black Sea and obtain positions in the intermediate sea between Russian ports and the ocean.
The Mediterranean is needed. And therefore Libya is needed, given that the conflict that has been shaking the North African country for years mainly concerns the coasts, where there are ports, arsenal, possible military bases e, inevitably, the terminals of gas and oil fields.

Italian ship rescues and brings immigrants back to Libya. E' the first time

Image results for Asso Ventotto Napoli
Of Adolfo Spezzaferro
For the first time, an Italian ship, after having rescued the immigrantsin mare, brought them back in Libya. It's about the Ace Twenty-Eight, a support vessel for an oil platform, That, in application of what has been established by the Italian government, coordinated with the Tripoli Coast Guard which is competent in those waters for the management of SAR search and rescue operations.
The boat, reports The Press, “it seems he followed the indications from the Coast Guard operations center which ordered the commander of Asso via radio from Rome 28 to coordinate with the Tripoli Coast Guard. Essentially the order was to bring those migrants back to Libya.".
“We have learned that one of the dinghies reported today by the Italian Coast Guard with 108 people on board in the Mediterranean were rescued by the ship Asso Ventotto, flying the Italian flag, which is heading towards Tripoli. We do not yet know whether this operation takes place on the recommendation of the Italian Coast Guard, but if that were the case it would be a very serious precedent, a truly collective rejection for which Italy and the ship's commander will answer before a court“, he said Nicola Fratoianni of Free and Equal, aboard the Open Arms. “International law – he adds – provides that people rescued at sea must be taken to a safe port and those in Libya, despite the mystification of reality by the Italian government, cannot be considered as such". Immigration: from Ireland to Malta, Renzi's secret agreements that sold out Italy

Of Francesca Totolo
The Government has changed, as well as policies relating to migratory flow. The new ministers, supported by the broad consensus of citizens, they try to remedy the licentious agreements and against the interests of the Italians themselves of the Renzi-Gentiloni executives, which provided for the indiscriminate opening of ports to NGO ships and those of European missions. The result is clear to everyone: more than 600 thousand irregular immigrants arriving in Italy and the Mediterranean reduced to an open-air cemetery. Maybe one day someone will have to answer for these 14 thousand deaths (give UNHCR 2015-2018).
What few people know though secret agreements signed bilaterally by Prime Ministers Renzi and Gentiloni and by their counterparts from other countries, to make sure that all immigrants collected at sea were brought only and exclusively to Italy. It was last July when the undersigned e Luca Donadel we noticed a ship from Irish Navy which shuttled between the Libyan SAR zone and the Sicilian ports with a rather suspicious frequency. Dublin was not included in the European Frontex mission at the time, EUNAVFOR MED Operation Sophia, which included as a collateral activity the rescue of migrant boats in danger under the coordination of MRCC of Rome.
We thus discovered Operation Pontus, a bilateral pact drawn up in 2015 which involved Renzi's Italian government (then reconfirmed by Gentiloni) and the Irish one, independent of European devices. The agreement, kept silent to Italian citizens and without any mention on the Government's institutional websites, predicted that the immigrants transshipped onto Irish Navy ships in the Libyan SAR area were disembarked in Italian ports. No national press has ever documented the landings of the Irish ships even though they all occurred regularly in Catania, e, at the same time, no one ever mentioned Operation Pontus. Read More

L'Italia: un futuro come "media potenza"

Of Antonio Terrenzio
Italy: un futuro come "media potenza"
Source: Conflicts and strategies
In the previous article, we had mentioned the need for a resumption of Italy's strategic role in the Mediterranean and greater weight in the "Euro/Atlantic" area.
The European Union, the Middle East and North Africa, they are the main poles where our foreign policy must return to having an assertive role.
The EU in particular, is experiencing a historical period of extreme weakness: the exponential growth of Eurosceptic parties due to senseless migration policies, the economic and bureaucratic rigidity of its institutions, they have significantly weakened its structure. Brexit was the first important consequence of the crisis of the European system.
Italy, as a founding country of the EU and always present at international tables, G7 and United Nations, it has progressively lost strategic and economic weight, as US unipolarity gradually extended its hegemony across the globe. Read More
