L’Italian Medicines Agency (AIFA) authorized the administration of Triptorelina for teenagers confused about their sexual identity: a medicine usually used against tumors, That blocks normal hormonal and pubertal development.
The idea is that of block the boys' body to wait for them to understand if they want to be male or female. The Agency acted outside its powers and against the medical-scientific evidence that the maxim suggests prudence on such invasive interventions. In a joint statement the R Study Center. Livatino and the association Science&Vita reiterated concerns that CitizenGO fully shares:
- he c.d.. drug is entered into the National Health Service list inlack of clinical studies and long-term follow-up;
- the risk is high, using triptorelin to block puberty until 4 about years – come on 12 ai 16 years of age –, to pharmacologically induce a misalignment between physical and cognitive development of the minor;
- there is no evidence on theeffective full restoration of fertility in the case of desistance from treatment and remaining in the sex of belonging;
- the question of remains suspended consent to the use of the so-called. drug, view the poor awareness of adolescents and pre-adolescents about their potential. Given then that the ability to act is achieved upon completion of the age of majority, how will doctors ensure that the consent of a pre-adolescent to whom triptorelin is intended to be administered is "free and voluntary”? What will happen if the parents want to access the "care" and the minor does not, or the opposite, o, Still, in case of conflict between parents? The parent can (or the guardian) express assent to an act of disposition of the body of others, in clear contrast with the current legislation?

Added to this is the fact that the Italian Medicines Agency issued this decision outside of its administrative competences e, as far as it turns out, without involving the Ministry of Health.
It is very serious that the administration of a drug is authorized drug so powerful and invasive on the body in full development of minors whose psychological problems can be naturally reabsorbed with the continuation of growth and psycho-physical maturation.
It is very serious that it is authorized suspension of puberty without taking into account the fact that often there is no turning back, nor predict what the healthcare outcomes of the administration will be in the individual patient.
Sign the petition for ask the Ministry of Health to cancel the AIFA provision and ensure that the organization never oversteps the limits of its powers in the future, especially on such delicate and invasive topics in the lives of minors.
Thanks for your support!
Best regards,
