The Segrate mosque sides with the left: Muslims must not miss this opportunity
Of Alberto Giannoni
Who to vote for? From the top of the minaret of Milan comes a clear and strong indication. On the contrary, moreover, a "suggestion, almost precept", aimed at "Muslim voters, their voting families and relatives".
And the "almost precept" is this: «Vote for those who supported ius soli, in order to participate in the formation of the majority that Allah willing will approve in the new legislature". As, ahead of the vote, the Segrate mosque comes into play (the only "official" official in the Milanese area) which in its bulletin addresses «Muslims, family and friends", and warns them that «they have a fundamental interest in going to the polls and in the secrecy of the booth, where no one, except Allah, let the splendor of its light shine, sees them carefully express their vote on a valid ballot, placing the X on the party symbol…» in favor of ius soli.
Among the beneficiaries of the endorsement there is certainly no center-right, there is obviously the left, but also i 5 Stelle commands great sympathy among many Muslim leaders and they were not against ius soli. As for the Democratic Party, the Islamic center of Milan and Lombardy hosted a meeting in Segrate a few days ago with the Milanese secretary of the Renzians Pietro Bussolati, accompanied by city councilor Sumaya Abdel Qader. Not only the faithful welcome them – strictly women on one side and men on the other – but above all the founder-imam Ali Abu Shwaima, known for having judged it inappropriate for a woman to ride a bike, as well as for participation in one of the pro-Palestinian marches in Milan, in December, when he called for an intifada against US projects in Jerusalem.
The latest issue of the bimonthly Il Messaggero dell'Islam, «Islamic studies periodical» registered at the Milan court, it came out a few days ago. And in Segrate it was packaged with a certain wisdom. The publication links to the Islamic center's website, on whose home page, between Arabic and bilingual texts, there is a statement that refers precisely to the recent case of "Jerusalem as the capital" and thanks Italy for having voted at the UN "against the President of the United States and his declaration to nominate Jerusalem as the capital of the Jewish State, currently settled in Palestine". Note the adverb “currently”.
As for the magazine, alternates politics and religion: «divine words», "pearls of wisdom", «prophetic teachings», «quotes with an Islamic flavor» but also a lot of current affairs. Rais Bashar Al Assad is accused of crimes against civilians in Syria, the Macerata case is reconstructed, we say "enough violence against women", we are talking about the centre-right candidate in Lombardy Attilio Fontana and his words on migrants, but also of the rabbi of Rome Riccardo Di Segni, who said he was worried about Muslim immigration and was therefore accused by the Segrate newspaper of "bringing grist to the enemies' mill", identified as the «ideological heirs of the most criminal anti-Semitic fanaticism of the last century».
Then, right from the cover, along with the “historical event” announced in the larger headline (the translation of the Koran conducted by imam Abdur Rahman Pasquini under the «dogmatic-religious supervision» Shwaima) we get into the topic of elections. «Who to vote for? Beware of the ius soli" we read in the well-referenced headline on the front page. And the appeal is contained in the editorial, and then in an internal two-page article, complete with a copy of the card. Warning article: «Muslims must not miss this political opportunity that Allah, the Most High, makes it available to them to consolidate them in the Territory".
