The Western media asserts that, in Eastern Ghouta, Syria and Russia are destroying valiant defenders of democracy.
According to the governments of the United Kingdom and France, these are three distinct armed groups: the Army of Islam, the Rahman Legion and Ahrar el-Sham.
According to Syria and Russia instead, the names of these three groups do not designate a different ideology. These three groups would not actually each defend their own ideas on Syria, but rather the interests of the respective sponsors. They would unite through the resolution 2401 and the attack they are now undergoing.
There is a lot of data circulating on the number of soldiers of each of these groups and on the number of inhabitants of eastern Ghouta. In reality these are unverifiable figures, so much so that the UN has given up on quantifying them. There is no doubt that the civilians of Ghouta are Syrians, however, there is no certainty of the nationality of the fighters. Surely some of them are Syrians, often prejudiced, many others are foreigners (who by definition cannot be classified as "rebels"). Even in this case these are unverifiable estimates.
Only two things are known for certain about these groups:
– First of all, we know what weapons he had at his disposal in 2015 the Army of Islam. It's an outdated fact, however verifiable thanks to the video of a military parade, organized in 2015 in Ghouta by the leader of the group, in which four armored vehicles and approximately 2.000 men, that is, a number of fighters ten times lower than claimed.
– Secondly, the information that can be obtained from propaganda tools: logos, flags, siti internet, account Twitter, spokesman.
Learn about Islam, i.e. Army of Islam, it is the only organization rooted locally. It was created in September 2013 from the Allouche family, starting from another group, the Islam Brigade. He acts with gang methods, imposing their law on the traders of Ghouta and publicly executing them, without hesitation, those who contest its power.
Jeïch el-Islam was initially directed by Zahran Allouche, son of the preacher Abdallah Allouche, member of the Muslim Brotherhood, took refuge in Saudi Arabia. He is particularly known for organizing the executions of homosexuals, throwing them from the roofs of the houses. He is now Jeïch el-Islam's representative at the UN negotiations in Geneva.

When it was created, the Army of Islam brought together around fifty small groups. In a statement widely disseminated in Asia, the organization presented itself as a defender of Muslims, calling together Muslims from around the world to wage jihad in Syria.
As a result of Egyptian-Saudi mediation, in July 2017 the Army of Islam has agreed to recognize Eastern Ghouta as a “de-escalation zone” under Russian control.

Faylaq al-Rahman
Faylaq al-Rahman, i.e. the “Legion of the Immensely Merciful” is a mercenary group from Qatar, from which it is equipped with modern armaments, especially RPG [portable anti-tank grenade launcher, ndt]. It is made up massively of foreigners.
In the calligram of the Legion of the Immensely Merciful, the English subtitle “Al-Rahman Corps” indicates that it is aimed primarily at Western jihadists who do not read Arabic.

Ahrar el-Cham
Harakat Ahrar al-Sham al-Islamiyya, abbreviated Ahrar al-Sham, translates as Islamic Movement of Free Men of the Levant. “Free men” are not free in relation to the Western concept of freedom. They did not free themselves from a dictatorship, but they were freed from the human condition through the practice of Salafist Islam. To dispel any doubts about the interpretation of the adjective, there is a minaret on the logo.
This international group was created by the Egyptians when Hosni Mubarak was overthrown by the United States [3]. Several Syrian members of the Muslim Brotherhood, imprisoned because they belonged to this terrorist organization, after being amnestied in 2011 at the request of third countries, they joined the Islamic Movement. Many of them were collaborators of Osama Bin Laden, first in Afghanistan then in Yugoslavia, which explains their closeness to the Taliban, often cited by them as an example of faith.
In their publications the group defines itself as a «comprehensive Islamic movement, who fights for Allah and defends religion".

The group is commanded by Hassan Sufan, known as “Abu al-Bara”, who spent about ten years in prison because he was a member of the Muslim Brotherhood.
The Foreign Minister of Ahrar al-Sham, Labib al-Nahahs, circulates freely in the West. He's a Brit, MI6 officer (secret services). In July 2015 he has published opinion articles in the Washington Post and the Daily Telegraph.
The group is supported by Qatar and Türkiye. The United Arab Emirates instead considers it a terrorist organization.

Common points of these three groups
There are no ideological differences between these three groups. Everyone harks back to the thoughts of the Muslim Brotherhood [4]. According to them, everyday life is divided between what, in light of their conception of Islam, what is permissible and what is not.
However, there are differences in how they believe people who do not share their ideology should be treated. In any case, there is no longer a person living under their rule who is not Sunni.
As happens with all fighters of the "Islamic revolution", these three organizations frequently fight and ally each other and their men often change sides. It would be absurd to draw any basic conclusions from it. In these clashes and alliances at most one can see disputes between leaders over territory and opportunism among soldiers.
These three groups, like many others, they have well-designed flags and logos and broadcast quality videos.
