Italians are increasingly atheist and agnostic, while religion retreats. This is the picture that emerged from the latest survey carried out by Doxa and previewed today on "Fatto Quotidiano".
According to the analysis conducted on "spiritual" life in our country, in the last five years there has been a reduction in the number of believers. A drop equal to 7%, which is even more marked among young people and in the geographical areas of the north.
Consequentially, il the figure for atheists and agnostics has significantly increased. The number of those who profess to be "non-believers" has gone from 10 al 15%, with peaks of 22% among the under 35. Here too, What is striking are the percentages relating to the north east and north west, where atheists are almost the 30% of the population.
In the end, a data relating to relations between state and religion: according to 83% of the sample, Italy must remain a "secular" country, with a complete separation between politics and religious confessions of all kinds.
