Healthcare, regions increasingly indebted to pay for treatment for illegal immigrants
Free healthcare for all costs the local health authority and consequently the state and citizens a lot. Here are the mind-boggling numbers
Urgent treatments, such as the emergency room or hospitalization. And more vaccinations, prophylaxis and remediation for infectious diseases. Without forgetting the protection of the health of minors and pregnant women: all free. Italian law says so. And free healthcare even for illegal immigrants. Free for them but for us it's a drain.
The costs for the local health authorities and for the state
The figures are very high. A deep wound in the national health system from which money leaks. There are many millions that local health authorities pay out every year for expenses for illegal immigrants. Costs that weigh: many local health authorities go into debt, I end up in the red and am forced to pay for personal pay and beds. Furthermore, they are forced - suffocated by the weight of expenses - to ask the State for help.
The situation has two crucial points. And they go hand in hand. The state reimburses only part of the costs, fishing for money from the National Health System, clearly fueled by Italian taxes. The reason? Thus we arrive at the second problem. The costs are due to irregular immigrants and “not refugees, landed or asylum seekers, inserted in some way into a reception system, supported, at least in part, from Europe", as underlined by La Verità.
In technical terms they are defined as temporarily present foreigners. For them the State, through the Ministry of Health has allocated 31 million euros. An underestimated figure that will be enough to pay perhaps two thirds of the total. It always happens like this: ask Emilia Romagna that in the only one 2016 he spent the beauty of 8 million euros to provide "essential services and benefits to non-compliant foreign citizens". They only returned 3,2 millions. In the 2015 instead the local health authorities paid for everything 7,7 millions of euros to assist illegal immigrants and, even in that case, they only got a partial refund, you seem to 5,5 millions. The numbers increase when checking past years: “dal 1998 al 2014 health services in Emilia Romagna have provided services to irregular workers for 90,8 million euros", underlines The Truth. Even in this case it is two thirds, that is to say 60 millions.
Even Veneto is no better off. "In the 2016 – we read in the newspaper edited by Maurizio Belpietro – the total expenses reported were equal to 8.501.000 euro, figure which has been constantly growing in recent years (+22% between 2014 and the 2015 and again +6% in the latest survey)”. Staggering figures that cannot be adequately reimbursed.
