I report extensive excerpts from Edward Pentin's article which communicates the reasons that the Cardinal's spokesperson. Parolin gave information about the participation of the cardinal himself in the controversial Bilderberg meeting.

Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Vatican Secretary of State, accepted the invitation to participate in the controversial and secret Bilderberg meeting earlier this month to bring the Church's teaching to a group that would otherwise not hear it, a Vatican spokesperson told the National Catholic Register .
The spokesperson said the visit's Italian organizers had been insistent in extending an invitation to the highest Vatican official after Pope Francis for this year's event., which took place from 7 al 10 June in Turin, in Italy.
“The cardinal decided to participate after the Italian organizers had very insistently invited him to the meeting six months ago”, the spokesperson explained. “He thought about it for a long time and, after consulting with some trusted people, decided to participate".
Among the main topics discussed during the 66th meeting were "populism in Europe", the “challenge of inequality” and the “post-truth world”.

In his comments to today's National Catholic Register 15 June, the Vatican spokesperson stressed that Parolin "did not ask to go" to the event, but decided to participate after a “long consultation process”. He said he didn't know why the organizers were so insistent, except probably because Pope Francis is an “important voice” on the world stage.
The Vatican Secretary of State was there for a “short period – about an hour and three quarters”, he revealed, during which the cardinal gave a speech on the "social doctrine of the Church" followed by a question and answer session.
The Pope was certainly aware of the cardinal's participation, the spokesperson said, and that the cardinal was “fully aware of the controversial nature” of the event but felt encouraged by having already met many of the participants in “other contexts”.
“He already knew some people, prime ministers and so on”, the spokesperson said.

The Vatican spokesman allayed concerns about the secret nature of the event, stating that Chatham House Rule (that regulates the event, and which allows the information to be used without the source being revealed, ndr) it is well known and widely used. “Several other meetings have the same rules”, he said. The Bilderberg Meeting says participants are free to discuss the meeting and to do so annually, but they are asked not to quote each other.
Some have speculated that this year's event was organized to discuss how to counter growing nationalist and populist movements, as seen most clearly in the election of President Donald Trump, Brexit, and in the recent elections in Italy which saw two populist parties come to power.
The Vatican spokesman said he "could not say more" on the matter, reiterating that the cardinal was there "simply to transmit Catholic social doctrine" and to bring "the voice of the Church to people who otherwise would not have heard it".
Even if the spokesperson was not present with the cardinal, said he believed his speech and remarks were “very well received”.
The National Catholic Register contacted the leadership of the Bilderberg Meeting to ask why the organizers were so insistent on the cardinal's participation and whether the intent was to promote a globalist agenda, but has not yet received a response.
