THE WRATH OF THE STUDENTS
Accused by students of having made statements incompatible with the “value base” Swedish (which requires all schools in the country to adhere to a common ethics policy, which includes values ​​such as egalitarianism, individual freedom and gender equality), the professor was asked by the University leaders to apologize publicly. At that point Hesslow turned to Academic Rights Watch (founded to monitor attempts to limit the fundamental rights of teachers and researchers) with the doubt that someone wanted to remove it from its course.

He also believes that Hesslow expressed himself in a "transphobic" way when he said "changing sex is a trend". In an interview with RT Hesslow underlines that "for ideological reasons" students do not like listening to scientific arguments on the biological differences between men and women, but that «at a certain point we need to recover a sense of proportion between the people involved. If it were to become common practice for students to record lessons to find compromising formulations and then involve the faculty staff with meetings and long letters, we should abandon medical education altogether.". As for the accusation of having a non-aligned political agenda, the professor, with a doctorate in neuroscience from 1987, explains that his only agenda is "to let scientific facts and not new conventional wisdom guide university proceedings.". RAINBOW FLAG AT THE ITALIAN EMBASSY IN SPAIN
