The day will come that the League will separate from the 5 Stars but it is not today and it will not be tomorrow. But before talking about it, let's take a snapshot of the situation. If you notice, Italian politics at the moment is the perfect representation of the four cantons.
In the first canton there is the League, at his side, in the left canton, there are the 5place, on the right side there is Forza Italia, in the opposite canton there is the left. Changing point of observation, the proximity and distance between the forces in the field remain unchanged. A perfect quadrilateral, even in intermediate sizes. Brothers of Italy, for example, it is located halfway between the League and Forza Italia. More Europe than the liberal-radicals is halfway between Forza Italia and the left. Liberi e Uguali is also halfway between the radical pauperism of the Grillini and the left of the Democratic Party. There is no intermediate movement between the League and the Grillini in the middle because the government is already in the middle, Conte is there.
Each political force can at most ally itself with one of the two cantons next to it, but not with both nor ever with the one in front of him, which is its opposite. The main enemy of the left is in fact the League, and vice versa. Forza Italia's main enemy is the grillini, and vice versa. It is the exact representation of Italian politics. Here are the four cantons: the sovereignist pole, the populist pole, the liberal-popular pole, the left-dem pole.
The subordinate variable in which many observers and the protagonists themselves trust is the split in a canton, so that energy and above all votes are freed up. There are those who trust that the Movement 5 stars split in two, the realist wing and the radical-Jacobin wing, perhaps one ready to govern with the League and the other with the left; instead there are those who hope that the left will split in two, the component most linked to the old left and the most secular and moderate one ready for various alliances; or again, that a realist component of Forza Italia passes from Silvio's sovereignty to allied sovereignty. However, few think that the League could split, even if not a few are blowing on Maroni, on Zaia, because they rise up against Salvini. But such a winning leader, at least today, it is difficult to dispute.
Described the situation, Let's move on to the evaluation, with a premise. We are not afraid of radical changes but they must be done seriously, knowing that if you knock something or someone down you have to know how to replace them. Revolution is sometimes necessary, but it must have alternative ideas and men to the incumbent power. And instead the grillini have neither one nor the other. They have few and wrong ideas, which are not ideas but ambitions, unattainable and crude resolutions. And on the human level they have no one with whom to replace the potentates after the cleanup; and you see it every day. I'm a lump of no, a rubbish bin, a random fishing for nominations, plus the attack on bakeries as a source of income for the poor. So they don't make any revolution, but they only limit themselves to destroying the pre-existing structure.
Having said this premise, you understand that - here I speak in a personal capacity - I accept the alliance of the 5 stars with the League as a numerical necessity but also as a daily outrage to the reality and needs of our country. But I must also honestly add that the idea of blowing up the government does not appeal to me at all. If Salvini, as Berlusconi and Meloni instigate, it breaks the bank what happens? It is very unlikely that Mattarella will immediately proclaim new elections and it is equally unlikely that he will entrust the position to Salvini for a centre-right government. And then go to the vote like the one who broke the bank, it's not good. Consequentially, the most likely hypothesis is that Mattarella appoints a provisional government, technical or institutional, perhaps supported by the Pd and Forza Italia, which serves to bring consensus to a boil, to deflate the Salvini phenomenon and only then go to the polls.
As regards the re-proposition of the centre-right Berlusconi's presence, even as a minority shareholder, is more cumbersome for Salvini than the menàge with Di Maio.. A Merkelian Berlusconi to boot, Euro-popular, already in dialogue with Renzi and surrounding areas, ready for sudden changes of course, as we have seen many in recent years. Furthermore, considering it unlikely that Salvini could have the numbers to win the elections on his own, the only way is to stay ready. When the time comes for the rift between the two governing partners, or when it's time to vote anyway, Salvini it will have to have allies who accept the sovereignist horizon, and therefore beyond Meloni and the willing exiles from Forza Italia, the only way is for Berlusconi to retire and for there to be a change at the top of Forza Italia: away those who have opposed the sovereignists, pro-migrants or at the service of European potentates, and forward a leadership more open to the alliance with the League. Wanting to square the circle, the perfect storm should produce two ingredients: an offshoot of 5 stars that breaks away from the movement and remains allied to Salvini and a change at the top of Forza Italia, if not the foundation in its place of a new center for popular Catholics, national and moderates as allies of Salvini and Meloni.
In that context, and only in that context, it will be possible to have an alternative to the alliance with the Grillini. But at the moment, you can't see it. Hence our restrained desperation, and our prayer that the government does not fall for now but in the meantime that the grillini do as little damage as possible.
