This is the alarm raised by Nicola Morra, president of the parliamentary anti-mafia commission after the revelations of Report on the Montante affair"
Politics as a whole should jump and make their voices heard in the face of the unraveling of a real lodge that acts against the State. I will do everything in my power to get to the bottom of it.".
It is an unprecedented cry of alarm and one that evokes the specter of P2 that was entrusted to the 30 April in the columns of the newspaper Il Sicilia by M5S senator Nicola Morra, the president of the anti-mafia parliamentary commission. A cry of alarm that bursts onto the scene after the sensational revelations broadcast no later than 29 April on Rai Tre by Report.
THE BACKGROUND
On Monday it was the popular program hosted by Sigfrido Ranucci that talked about a series of occult plots, shocking events, assassination attempts, blackmail, illegal dossiers, unspeakable interests, of relations with the mafia, with pieces from the institutions, of politics, of the police forces, of the Italian secret services, Americans and Israelis. This dark thriller was born in the wake of the investigation, which then resulted in an unprecedented trial at the Caltanissetta court, which he sees among the main defendants Antonello Montante, already number two of the national Confindustria. Who would have ended up at the center of a cleverly designed system of power, among others, from the upper echelons of the Italian secret services, perhaps even with the support of other foreign entities.
Among the brightest stars in this firmament there is Banca Nuova, the Sicilian credit institution branched directly into the land of Trinacria from the Banca Popolare di Vicenza by express will of the then president Gianni Zonin, today on trial for the collapse of the institute in via Framarin, finished, like Veneto bank, in one of the largest Italian banking collapses of recent times. A collapse which then saw the shreds of the two institutions swallowed up by Banca Intesa.
During the episode, as it had been anticipated to Vicenzatoday.it by the author Paolo Mondani Zonin has been talked about at length. According to the former general director of Banca Nuova Adriano Caoduro, interviewed by Mondani, when Zonin himself decided to land in Sicily many years ago «becomes inviolable». So much so in that episode, full of facts, "heavy" circumstances and testimonies, relations with politics at the highest levels are mentioned, with the institutions, with the elite of Sicily that counts.
This is a scenario which in many respects still needs to be clarified in relation to which Senator Morra promised that he will activate the anti-mafia commission. In this context it will be enough to remember some main passages of the episode when we talk about Banca nuova as a creature of the secret services, of the vicinity between the Bagheria mafia and some environments near Banca nuova, of the latter's loans to leading entrepreneurs in the island region, starting from the most high-sounding names in local publishing, until we get to the story, in some ways still obscure, of the passage of the Trapani popular group to the BpVi galaxy. Furthermore, Trapani has long been known as the city of the so-called irregular lodges. One of these a few weeks ago even ended up in the center of a big scandal that concerns among many, politicians, policemen, professionals and entrepreneurs who had illicitly learned about a series of investigations concerning them and among which we also speak of judges of Masonic obedience.
It should not be forgotten that Caoduro is no stranger to shocking statements. In July of 2017, interviewed by La Verità , described a thorny mess of disturbing circumstances in the management of the BpVi-Banca nuova galaxy, identifying in the latter a lump of opaque interests that came to touch a series of environments that matter, but also environments related to the world of banking unions, Beans first. If to all this we add the words of the host of Report Ranucci who speaks openly of a bank in which the events of the mafia and those of the anti-mafia movement intersected as well as of a State that must have the courage to put itself on trial also due to the fact that the episode was close to touching on some of the most unspeakable agreements on which the more or less recent history of the peninsula is based, it's easy to understand how much, in this mosaic, the pieces that have traveled along the Vicenza-Rome axis for years have weighed- Palermo-Trapani-Caltanissetta.
THE PRESIDENT'S ALARM
And it is in light of all this that President Morra refers to a situation of serious risk for democracy in which, without explicitly naming it, evokes the ghosts of the P2 lodge. «The Montante case – the senator remarks – leaves us dismayed by its ability to infiltrate institutions, but even more dismaying is the silence that they want to impose on this process and the continuous and devastating revelations that are coming to the surface". According to Morra himself (in photo) the episode of Report created by Mondani continues to produce glimpses of the truth about the intermingling of state apparatus, entrepreneurship and characters with a mafia scent. At this, according to the M5S representative, it is necessary to remember the results achieved by the report signed by Claudio Fava, president of the «Anti-mafia Commission of the Sicilian Regional Assembly» who talks about a true parallel government . «Here despite everything – concludes Morra – everything is silent". These are words that weigh like stones and are valid for institutions and civil society, in Sicily, in the Veneto and obviously also at a national level.
THE PRECEDENTS
In reality, Morra had already raised a cry of alarm in relation to the connivance between the mafia and the banking system. And he had, unique among the speakers, during a long conference organized in Verona in mid-March. The senator's criticism was due to the fact that the institutions at the time said little or nothing after another episode of Report, it was the 12 November 2018, also signed by Mondani, in which the foundations were laid for the conclusions that Rai Tre reached a few days ago.
Between the silences which after the first episode of Report on the Montante affair were most impressive and which have remained so today, there is that of the Berica Confindustria whose presidency Luciano Vescovi currently sits in. Who during the Zonin era also held the position of president of Banca nuova.
Much of the press too, both national and Venetian, at the time it did not provide any feedback on the scenarios described by Report. However in November last year, despite a series of generalized silences there was someone who took a clear position. This is Enzo Guidotto, president of the Veneto Observatory on the mafia phenomenon. Who not only reported the facts reported by Rai Tre to the judiciary so that it could examine any profiles of criminal relevance.
Moreover, to the Sicilian broadcaster «La prima tv» Guidotto gave a long interview during which he asked himself whether behind the press campaign against the former Vicenza judge Cecilia Carreri, among the few robes who according to Guidotto tried to see clearly about the Zonin system, there was the hand of the security services . On that occasion Guidotto also complained about the silence that politics had placed on the case. A silence also denounced by Morra and, in the recent interview given to Vicenzatoday.it, also denounced by Mondani himself.
FEARS ABOUT THE TRIAL
Meanwhile in Vicenza the legal proceedings regarding the collapse of the institute in via Framarin continue. The other day, the newspapers of the Espresso Group spread the news that the prosecutors who are managing the investigation (I am Dr. Gianni Pipeschi and Dr. Luigi Salvadori) they requested the dismissal of around twenty suspects. These archiving requests include Giovanna Dossena, Franco Miranda, Andrea Monorchio, Roberto Zuccato, Giovanni Zonin, Giuseppe Zigliotto, Marino Breganze, Giorgio Tibaldo, Gianfranco Pavan, Nicola Tognana, Giovanni Fantoni, Fiorenzo Sbabo, Maurizio Stella, Vittorio Domenichelli, Alessandro Bianchi, Maria Carla Macola and Paolo Angius. In addition to them, the prosecutors asked the investigating judge to also archive the positions of three members of the Board of Auditors: Giovanni Zamberlan, Giacomo Cavalieri and Laura Piussi.
The magistrates, said in a nutshell, believe that these managers were not informed of the reckless conduct that the public prosecution believes characterized the actions of Zonin and the other top managers who ended up on trial. This news though, in Vicenza as in the rest of Veneto, it was viewed "with a certain disquiet" not only by the so-called audience of zeroed-out shareholders. But also from a part of that world, especially professionals, which for obvious reasons is following, more or less directly the judicial implications of the collapse of the former Venetian popular societies.
The Vicenza lawyer Renato Ellero, former professor of criminal law at the University of Padua and former member of the parliamentary anti-mafia commission when he sat on the benches of Palazzo Madama, dice: «In recent hours I have been reading about the many requests for dismissal of the proceedings relating to the so-called BpVi collapse. Heaven forbid that there is any link to the tangle of unspeakable interests revealed by Report in the context of the Montante-Banca Nuova affair".
Furthermore, in the past in the Veneto the shadow of the services had already cast a shadow over a criminal investigation in full swing. Just think, as Padovaoggi.it wrote , to what happened in 2014 with the Mose-Galan affair.“
