The how and why of Populism

Of Umberto Bianchi
The how and why of Populism
Source: Heretically
At the end of a decidedly close electoral contest, the verdict that came out of the polls has, indiscutibilmente, rewarded all those formations that, somehow, they imitate or are themselves considered “populist”. The reference applies to both the League and the Movement 5 position, US President Trump, the transalpina Lady Marine Le Pen, That, in the most recent past for the Forza Italia of the golden times and, really, in very recent times, as if by someone risky, also for Renzi of the original "scrap" version. A term whose meaning has included a bit of everything and its opposite.
But what exactly do we mean by “populism”?? What is the exact political meaning in which this term should be placed, very fashionable nowadays? If we want to refer to the letter of the history of political movements, by “populism” we mean a series of movements that, at the end of the nineteenth century they developed in disparate contexts. In Russia, Populism was represented by the “narodnjki”, whose most authoritative exponents were the colonel and mathematics professor of the Military Academy Pyotr Lavrovič Lavrov, supporter of populism in a socialist key, together with its popularizer and idelogue, the sociologist and literary critic Nikolai Konstantinovič Mikhailovsky, having as its object the emancipation of the peasant masses, starting from the rural/"obscina" community. France instead, began with Paul Deroulede's League of Patriots, che unitasi ad un altro movimento populista di massa, Boulangism (named after Georges Boulanger, charismatic general of the French army) he became an advocate of a radical and revanchist nationalism, always connected to the increasingly widespread discontent of the masses, towards the young French parliamentary republic, much to achieve in 1888-89, after obtaining the support of the monarchists, of significant electoral victories. In the United States it was the People's Party (People’s Party), also known as Populist Party (Populist Party), summarily called "Populists”, which party was established in 1891 in the United States of America which, during the “populist” period, took hold towards the end of the 19th century. Supported by the lower classes, especially by cultivators hostile towards elites in general, had its peak between 1892 and the 1896. Read More

Elections, Mattarella: it's up to President of the Senate Casellati

Elections, Mattarella: it's up to President of the Senate CasellatiReport Wall Street Italia
Of Alessandra Caparello
ROMA (WSI) – Italy is in a stalemate situation and after the second round of consultations a response is expected from the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella who will have to decide what to do most likely tomorrow.
According to what Corriere della Sera writes today, President Sergio Mattarella will try to entrust an exploratory mandate to one of the two high state offices and the most accredited one would appear to be the President of the Senate Elisabetta Alberti Casellati.

“If it goes like this, she will have to have a studio set up quickly Giustiniani Palaceand prepare a calendar of meetings in an attempt to bring the positions closer together and untangle the knots of an agreement that until last week seemed almost done".

Another option on the table is to give a pre-appointment to one of the two leaders who emerged victorious from the recent elections and the favorite name is that of Matteo Salvini who yesterday engaged in the electoral campaign of Molise and Friuli-Venezia Giulia stated: Read More

Help, the municipalities have run out of money (and this also explains the vote for the Five Stars)

From administrations forced to sell parts of roads to those in which employees are employed as street cleaners: years of cuts have left thousands of municipalities broke. An austerity that has especially affected the South, with obvious consequences on the last vote. (Of Gianni Balduzzi, LAWS)

The disappearance of the left

Of Marcello Veneziani
The disappearance of the left
Source: Marcello Veneziani
Upon closer inspection, Matteo Renzi was the last tram, the last trump card for the GMO left. Dopo di lui il disastro. Not even the scorching one, The crushing electoral defeat reveals the conditions in which the left is currently reduced. Incomparable shreds, wandering packs without direction and destination, total absence of leadership and credible programs for the country, survival of only a few oligarchies and then that's it. Today it alternately clings to anti-populism or the Grillini.
With Renzi, albeit due to a spectacular misunderstanding, the left touched the sky of 40% of approval with one finger. Short parable, then ended with a pigeon shoot by the most barbarians to bring down the "little tyrant", which however had brought them to the top of consensus, leading the country almost alone. Renzi missed "the appointment with history" when he didn't have the courage and stature to go through with his Party of the Nation, transverse, that left the old one behind, rancid, rancorous anti-fascist left to gain centrality in the country. He got scared, Renzi, of the hostilities gathered on the left, he tried to recover among his own; then crippled by the referendum, he tried in vain to relocate himself to the centre-left, pretending to be some kind of Prodi 2.0. And there it gradually lost pieces, managing to lose the sympathies gained in the center and on the right, without gaining the slightest sympathy on the left. But Renzi collapsed, the left is in dust, with no direction of travel, it only leverages resentment towards populists. Read More

The Five Star Paradox (and not only that): to govern you have to betray the voters
