ROMA (WSI) – Italy is in a stalemate situation and after the second round of consultations a response is expected from the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella who will have to decide what to do most likely tomorrow.
According to what Corriere della Sera writes today, President Sergio Mattarella will try to entrust an exploratory mandate to one of the two high state offices and the most accredited one would appear to be the President of the Senate Elisabetta Alberti Casellati.

“If it goes like this, she will have to have a studio set up quickly Giustiniani Palaceand prepare a calendar of meetings in an attempt to bring the positions closer together and untangle the knots of an agreement that until last week seemed almost done".

Another option on the table is to give a pre-appointment to one of the two leaders who emerged victorious from the recent elections and the favorite name is that of Matteo Salvini who yesterday engaged in the electoral campaign of Molise and Friuli-Venezia Giulia stated:

“If I win the regionals, I do the government in 15 days!.

Il pre-assignment Salvini, however – writes Repubblica – would have more than one contraindication for Mattarella.

“First of all the pro-Russian positions, taken by the leader of the League regarding the Syrian crisis, are creating concern among Euro-Atlantic allies about Italy's international position. Furthermore, the Northern League secretary's support for Putin increases the distances in foreign policy compared to the M5s, which reiterated its positioning pro-Nato”.

But a Mattarella twist cannot be ruled out.

“Mattarella could ultimately opt for one creative solution. Perhaps entrusting an exploratory mandate to a fifth character with more cards to play to find a majority".

  • Ah,beh, and’ right, the “creative solution” e’ simply listen to the masters of the Italian economy and hastily appoint a “senator” (to Monti if it wasn't clear) and let him take on a government. So I want to see if the Italian people finally rebel and take to the streets challenging the Eurogendfor that will come’ immediately sent to quell the revolt…
