Thanks to the collaboration between the Italian and Croatian governments, to Ossero, the bodies probably belonging to a handful of X Mas soldiers murdered by the Titos were exhumed
Bring yourself back to the light, after seventy-four years oblivion, from the mass grave that had swallowed them, without glory or honors, without shoes or uniforms.

About forty in total those stationed in Lussino, in defense of the localities of Zabodaschi and Neresine. At Zabodaschi they surrendered and were deported to the gulags. Not even a handful were those who managed to return home. In Neresine, however, they tried to resist, barricaded in a former police barracks and clearly outnumbered, until the last bullet. Those who survived the partisans' volleys and did not decide to use the last bullet for themselves, was taken to Ossero. Forced to dig his own grave, barefoot, he was shot and covered with earth. It was the 21 April of 1945.
The news of the exhumation of around thirty unidentified bodies was given by the FederEsuli that in 2008, in that place, he had already placed a plaque with the list of the fallen. “Even if those poor remains, to this day, appear to be officially from unknown persons, for the entire world of exodus the excavation of the Ossero pit represents a success, albeit bitter, achieved decades later and obtained thanks to the insistence of the associations that have always asked to honor their fallen”.
The excavations, they explain again from FederEsuli, carried out in collaboration with the Croatian government, “represent the implementation of the agreement stipulated on war burials by a special mixed Italian-Croatian commission and signed in Zagreb on 6 maggio 2000”. That agreement represented a turning point for FederEsuli which, “since its establishment, has continuously carried out dialogue with Italian institutions, so that they would take responsibility for dialogue with their Croatian counterparts, in order to obtain a simple gesture of human mercy. For this he heartily thanks the Commissariat for Honoring the Fallen in War (Honored), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, as well as the Croatian authorities who made the exhumation possible”.
The news confirms the excellent health of bilateral relations between Italy and Croatia which, last July, had already led to the exhumation of “martyrs of Castua”. “Once again – conclude from FederEsuli – we ask for such mercy towards the victims of the senseless violence unleashed after the end of the Second World War, can manifest itself by placing multilingual tombstones in the confirmed places that have seen the horrors of the massacres, so that the memory is not lost and can be a warning for freed future generations, once and for all, from the nefarious impulses of nationalism as well as from senseless ideology"
