Paris, 7 Mar – With the death of Guillaume Faye, died in the night between 6 e 7 March, one of the few intellectuals who has truly changed the way we all think disappears from the European metapolitical scene, even those who have never read it, even those who read it thought differently on many issues. Seriously ill for some time, looked after by a handful of devoted associates, Faye until the end he showed more interest in the world of ideas than in his own person, even at the cost of neglecting one's health in order to continue writing. Even though I never met him, I had tried to contact him several times recently, by writing to the email address on your site. He answered me for the first time, agreeing to an interview. Ma, when I sent him the questions via email, he declared that he had not received anything, asking me to send them again… by letter. Which is truly singular, for a prophet of technoscience. I had made a second attempt, in order to co-opt it onto the National Record, in which a regular column from him would have been more than welcome. He never answered me, probably because he was already sick.
The French New Right
Faye was born on 7 November 1949 ad Angoulême, the capital of the Charente department, located in the New Aquitaine region. He said in an interview: «I was raised in the cult of French nationalism, of Bonapartist tendency, and the paradoxical result was a European patriotism. My social environment of origin is that of the great Parisian bourgeoisie, who I know perfectly from the inside and whose conformist and materialistic ideals I have never shared". Graduate of the Institute of Political Studies in Paris and holder of a doctorate in political science, he was one of the main theorists of Research and Study Group for European Civilization (in Greece), and the environment later known as French New Right, in the period from 1970 al 1986. Faye approaches Grece at the invitation of Dominique Friends, without a pedigree history particularly linked to the right. Among the figures who had marked him up to that moment there was, if anything, the Marxist and Situationist Henri Lefebvre. At this stage, Faye proposes a voluntarist thought, Faustian, markedly nietzscheano and bearer of a neopaganesimo postmoderno. His vision of the world exalts the visionary technoscience of the European spirit. Provocations are not uncommon, especially on ethical and sexual issues.
In a item from a few years ago, Stefano Vaj, long-time friend of the Frenchman, This is how he describes his first impact with the character Faye, as part of a Greek conference: «Exceptional speaker, hypnotic even when reading a report written in the muffled atmosphere of a study conference in a conference building, Guillaume Faye resembled the young Feddersen somewhat physically and in his movements, played by Gustav Froelich, protagonist of Metropolis at Fritz Lang; and he was already unquestionably the rising star of the movement. […] Faye left an impression of "lucid fanaticism" mixed with reminiscences of Che Guevara, D'Annunzio, Ignatius of Loyola and Goebbels, quite distant from the sectarian and careerist human material, conformist and reactionary, which dominated my Italian political experience at the time. The nights spent discussing the fundamental issues of our era and the future of Europe in the Provençal countryside of the GRECE Université d'Eté soon became a welcome breath of fresh air.".
The system for killing people
The son of this phase is the exceptional The System to kill people, punctual diagnosis of globalization written… in 1981, when the political agenda of the West was entirely occupied by the Cold War. In a world divided in two, with the various right-wingers often worried about representing with due zeal the role of sentinels of the West, Faye was concerned about the uniformity of the planet under the banner of a single consumerist ideology, demobilizing, borghese, universalistica. Prophetic book if there ever was one, The system for killing people – of which there is an Italian translation, created by Vaj himself, revived several times in different editions, the latest recently by Aga editrice – also had the merit of proposing a reading of power totally alien to conspiracy schemes and sectarian simplifications. The main characteristic of the System described by Faye was indeed precisely the fact that it "worked" in a mechanical way, impersonal, acephalo. A lesson to review, precisely today that the specters of mega conspiracies return to dominate the scene of those who would like to oppose the same System.
Defined the «antidad of the New Right» compared to the recognized "pontiff" of the environment, Alain de Benoist, Faye couldn't have had a more different personality than the author of Seen from the right: so meticulous, encyclopedic, Benoist's "intellectual"., how whimsical, polemical, the second "militant".. Characteristics that entail, in both cases, as many advantages as defects. In the 1986, Faye breaks with the Grece environment, in parallel with other illustrious exponents of the same environment, like the historian Jean-Claude Valla. For a decade, Faye stays away from politics and culture: participates in radio programs, makes media provocations, he would even take part, according to an urban legend he himself fueled, to porn films as an actor.
Archeofuturismo
In the 1998, the great return to the battle of ideas with Archeofuturismo, one of the most important texts of the last few 30 years. Last March, on the occasion of the re-edition of the text, again for Aga types, I wrote that the work «strongly affected the imagination of the two decades that followed, without substantially losing its relevance. […] The thesis of the book is known, even just for being overheard here and there: must join Evola and Marinetti, il sacred and technoscience, the power of the archaic and futuristic suggestions. […] But it was above all the discussion aboutislam which was bound to shock Faye's old admirers and create debate among her natural audience. The old singer of the 'cause of the people' against the American-centric system reemerged from nowhere calling for war against Muslims. Heresy, betrayal, hand of the CIA or Mossad? You have him, as usual, the Fayan vision tended to take concepts to the extreme, with quite a bit of forcing and some arguments cut with an axe".
Right in the February issue 2019 of the National Record there is ainterview to Guillaume Faye with semi-testamentary characteristics.
As the years went by, the ax had become increasingly sharper, even if the visionary heights, originals, mobilizers of Archeofuturismo they would never be touched again. Among his works from this second period, the unknown deserves a mention Why we fight?, minor operetta, a sort of militant breviary truly full of ideas. Among the books that had caused the most people to talk and bad about themselves was instead The new Jewish question, for which he was obviously branded an agent of international Zionism. The very last essay, released just recently, another testified, controversial step towards an increasingly accentuated radicality, starting with the title: Racial Civil War. A text that would have been nice to discuss and maybe even argue about. There wasn't time.
