They are in total 62 Italian parliamentarians, between the House and the Senate, who have decided to join the intergroup for choices regarding the "end of life" (to read: "euthanasia") and who asked to schedule the discussion. This was announced by the representatives ofLuca Coscioni Association following the presentation of a parliamentarian's bill in the Senate 5position Matteo Mantero. Among these there are 24 exponents of Movement 5 position, 11 of the Democratic Party and only one of Forza Italia (the deputy Giusi Bartolozzi), beyond 4 Of Free and Equal and others of the mixed.
Among the various memberships stand out those of Emma Bonino, Monica Cirinnà, Tommaso Cerno, Elena Fattori, Rosa Maria Di Giorgi, Nicola Fratoianni, Roberto Giachetti, Riccardo Magi, Alessia Morani, Riccardo Nencini, Stefania Pezzopane, Barbara Pollastrini, Andrea Romano, Luigi ZandaThe initiative was born from the recent decision of the Constitutional Court which, called to give its opinion on the trial of the radical Marco Cappato, accused of aiding suicide for having accompanied DJ Fabo to a clinic in Switzerland where he received "assisted suicide", invited Parliament to better define the contours of the article 580 of the criminal code to fill the risk of a "regulatory gap" in the face of particular situations. In practice, the Consulta urged Parliament to adapt the current legislation on incitement and assistance to suicide to certain interests linked to the "end of life" and which risk not finding full application in the article 580.
As was to be expected, however, the decision of the constitutional judges, it was immediately used as a pretext to relaunch the battle in favor of euthanasia which has absolutely nothing to do with the merit of the device adopted by the High Court. The objective of the members of the parliamentary intergroup, seems to be to completely overturn the article 580 and ensure that it ends up translating into a sort of rule aimed at establishing a "right to suicide". Now naturally the battle will move inside the parliamentary halls where the total lack of support for the initiative by parliamentarians should be positively welcomed League, Brothers of Italy e Forza Italia (with the exception of the only blue parliamentarian mentioned above). This gives us hope about the possibility, than any attempt to legalize euthanasia, can be blocked by the joint action of the united center-right, with the desirable addition of dissident parliamentarians from other groups, il Pd and the M5S, sensitive to the defense of ethical issues.
However, it is sad to note the adhesion to the intergroup by Catholic exponents of the Pd like Senator Di Giorgi, already committed in the past legislature in favor of living wills. She assures that it will not lead to euthanasia, but it is denied byCoscioni Association which he declares: «Joining a discussion on a law on euthanasia it spreads like wildfire even in Parliament, in fact further 28 deputies and senators have decided to join the intergroup for end-of-life choices to jointly ask for the discussion to be scheduled». The concrete risk is that of exploiting the Council's decision to definitively open the way to a legalization of practices that are contrary to human life and are the result of that same "culture of death" that has been forcefully making its way throughout Europe for some time.. A similar mentality- Nazi who, paradoxically, it increasingly risks becoming the "single thought" that guides the world.
