Carlo Antonello, gynecologist at the Oderzo hospital, proposes to the mayor Mario Conte “a path of help and support for life by promoting a motion similar to that of Verona”
TREVISO. An anti-abortion motion, a photocopy of the one presented in Verona, the same one that sparked an uproar in half of Italy.
To propose it, for the Municipality of Treviso, he is a gynecologist at the Oderzo hospital, Carlo Antonello, who addresses Mayor Conte: “Don't be stopped by the sirens of death that run through newspapers and television to defend a right, but give place and life to a serious and peaceful discussion, also starting for our beloved municipality a path of help and support for life by promoting a motion and presenting it quickly to the Treviso city council, for it to be voted on”.
The gynecologist from Treviso (…) wrote an open letter to the mayor of Treviso.
Here is the full text:
“Dear Mayor, Some significant events have occurred in recent months which give rise to hope for a newfound sensitivity towards respect for life, especially the nascent one. I am thinking above all of the nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the US Supreme Court; I think of the outcome of the referendum on abortion that was held in Argentina.
Even in Italy, in very recent times, there was an important political signal: I am referring to the motion voted by the Verona City Council with which it was decided to support those organizations that support women in difficulty in order to make them desist from the idea of having an abortion. About this, The words pronounced yesterday by the Holy Father Francis during the general audience were very strong.
I believe that the path taken by the Verona City Council in at least substantially revising the structure of the law 194, giving voice and strength to those realities that support the right to life, is not only shareable but also correct in form. In fact, even the law itself 194 foresees in the path to
Access to the service is a period of reflection during which the woman should be accompanied in the decision by experts and associations of merit who know how to direct her to calm reflection. Without discrimination for anyone and no preconceived ideological position. In my professional experience I have met women who are ready to have an abortion in a period of discouragement… and after having had one or more discussions and having sought solutions with them, some accepted the life they had inside…and now they thank me continuously and publicly.
As a doctor I can say that Life must always be defended, honored and respected. Why believe that erasing an existence is the solution to problems and evils? Those who believe in the progress and lawfulness of this law have perhaps never witnessed vital energy, shocking and emotional that is unleashed at the first cry of a child…. he didn't witness the magic that transforms a man and a woman into mom and dad…. but even more so, perhaps she has not experienced or suffered such a decision which over time leads the woman to indelible wounds of the soul and body…
In the articles of the law 194 some essential principles are declared such as that of supporting women in the decision-making process with any means and help and it is stated that it is not promulgated as a way to control births!
So dear Mayor, don't be stopped by the sirens of death that run through newspapers and television to defend a right, but give place and life to a serious and peaceful discussion, also starting for our beloved municipality a path of help and support for life by promoting a similar motion by presenting it quickly to the Treviso city council, for it to be voted on”.
