Cincinnati, Ohio. A girl from 17 years he wants to undergo pharmacological "treatments" to become male. The parents, Christians, they object, arguing that such a transition is not in their daughter's best interests. A juvenile court strips those parents of parental rights and entrusts the minor to her grandparents, in favor of sex change. “They have a more open mind”, the legal guardian testified at the trial (a social worker) while the parents oppose it "for religious reasons"; therefore they have prejudices. The judge, Sylvia Sieve Hendon, in the ruling he invited politicians to develop a "legislative path" to resolve cases of parental conflict - which means putting hormones used to change sex on the list of "No-Parents Asked" drugs, such as contraceptives and abortifacients which can be given to minors without their parents knowing anything about it.
Cincinnati has also equipped itself, in the pediatric hospital, of a Transgender Program (TP). Upon opening in 2015, he treated about a hundred patients. In the 2017, he treated over a thousand of them. And he received a donation of 2 million dollars from a wealthy couple of benefactors, whose son d 8 years he wanted to change sex. Noteworthy fact, the PT doctors changed the sex of everyone they visited: apparently they found none normal. In 14 gender clinics that exist in the UK, the number of patients who come knocking and receive treatment, increased by 100 percent last year. In the decade, patients who consider themselves "women prisoners in a man's body" (or the opposite) they also increased by 28 volte. Similar colossal increases in “such disorders” are recorded in Australia, in Sweden, in Usa, corresponding to the rise of clinics that treat the "disorder". In the United States, In the 2011, circa 1,4 millions of adults declared themselves trans-gender.
An American university, Kennesaw State University, equipped with an LGBT Resource Center, invented new personal pronouns – beyond he and she – to respectfully name genders.
Ora, we need to dot some i's.
If there was some biological basis for this phenomenon, the percentage of trans-gender aspirants should be the same in each state. Instead, a Washington, the capital, there are three or four times as many trans genders as those present in other states (2,8 are 1000, against o.70 or even 0.30 in rural states). “The increased visibility and social acceptance of trans gender people can increase the number of people who want to identify as trans”: so hypothesizes the Williams Institute, a socio-sexual research center at the University of Los Angeles (UCLA). The philosopher Ian Hacking, who studied the issue, speaks of an ongoing "semantic contagion".: mediatization, which claims to only describe the phenomenon, creates the conditions for its diffusion. The activism of ideological militants, teaching in schools to "not have prejudices" and to "discover one's gender", academic studies on gender change, the great social "understanding" for trans or various LGBT people, the fact that these clinics are born, that they are financed and even provide “therapies” at public expense, can in themselves explain why, many males reach the point of having their genitals amputated, irreversible operation, to have an artificial vulva made by a plastic surgeon?
The ideological militants, that dominate the discussion, they say that "one is born like this", trans gender or sexually dissatisfied with his gender, “woman prisoner in a man's body”. It is political correctness that is imposed. While all the evidence suggests this: “Modern culture does not reveal i trans, He's creating them." (Anne Hendershott su Catholic World Report).
Fashionable mental illnesses
That mental or self-related disorders are dependent on the cultural context of a given historical moment, or even from a "psychic contagion" which causes there to be "fads" in psycho-pathologies, is known to specialists. Amok is a killing spree that strikes in Indonesia and New Guinea. In the last 19th century, French youths suffered from “fugue state”, coming to his senses after months in Moscow or Algiers, without knowing how they got there. In the 70s, thousands of Americans knocked on the doors of psychotherapists saying they were inhabited by two (or even twelve) different personalities, and being duly diagnosed by therapists with “multiple personality disorder”, an affection that today seems to have disappeared. On the other hand, today we are overwhelmed by schoolchildren troubled by Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity and treated with tons of Prozac, from “uncertain genders” and similar modulations of the psycho-sexual sphere, who moreover deny that theirs is a disorder, but they declare it a right.
The fact is that every now and then it pops up “a new way of being crazy".
The phrase is the title of an essay by Carl Elliott, a doctor who deals with healthcare ethics, published in 2000 – to deal with a “disorder of the self” apparently even more aberrant than sex change. A Scottish surgeon had amputated the legs of two patients at their request, and had been stopped before he operated on a third. The two amputees had defended the doctor, telling the newspapers how they were happier and more complete now, without the leg.

Elliott discovered that the phenomenon is less rare than believed. He discovered several cases in which patients had caused gangrene themselves, and terrible wounds, to then be able to go to the hospital and have the limb surgically cut. Others had tried to place their leg on the tracks... A small market in clandestine amputations had been created in Mexico, where an eighty-year-old American had paid 10 thousand dollars to have a limb removed. Elliott discovered amputation hopefuls on the internet, and those sexually attracted to amputees, they spoke closely in chat rooms on the web – one of these virtual living rooms had 1400 members – where they exchanged fantasies and advice on how to have a limb mutilated. There is also a rich production of pornography for amputees, this attraction being highly sexual.
Specialized porn

By entering one of these sites, Elliott was able to ask questions of the participants. “My right foot wasn't part of me, I understood it since I was 8 years", one told him. “I never felt truly complete with legs”, a forty-year-old told him. In general, everyone explained that with two legs "I don't feel like myself", and who were seeking amputation “because I want to see myself as I am inside, be myself as I feel I am". In short, the same motivation as trans people: “I feel imprisoned in the wrong body”. And they really suffer. And they are tetragonous to any psychic treatment. And only once "cut" did they find serenity.
Soon the "right to be amputated"?
SI call it “acrotomophilia”
What to do?, asks bioethicist Elliott. Trans people have now won the "right" to hormone treatment and penis removal, legally and free from the national health service; when they demand the "right" to have their feet and legs removed, “I wonder about the ethical status of surgery as a solution. Amputation must be considered an act of cosmetic surgery? Or invasive psychiatric treatment?…”
Disturbing to know that the first psychiatrist to describe this desire to be amputated, or being erotically attracted to amputees, it was – way back 1977 – John Money. An infamous name: professor at the prestigious John Hopkins, John Money (1921-2006), who had opened a clinic "for Gender Identity" in 1965, performing the first plastic surgeries and hormone injections for transsexuals. And the "doctor" who received David Reimer's parents in '67, a newborn who had suffered an accidental amputation of the penis, and convinced them that it was a plastic operation, an estrogen treatment and an adequate feminine education would have transformed him into a little girl. Less than two years of age, little David had his testicles removed, closed the seminal ducts and transformed the scrotum, with plastic surgery, in a “rudimentary external vagina”. In reality, David transformed into Brenda "went through a devastating identity crisis". He felt like a man, he acted like a man, and for this reason he suffered the ridicule of his companions. A 14 years he manifested suicidal ideas; his parents then confessed to him the truth about what they had done to his body. Then “Brenda” decided to go back to “David”, he underwent terrible operations, double mastectomy, doses of testosterone; he even managed to get married, In the 1990. But he ended up committing suicide a 38 years. Thanks to Money's "innovative" ideas on gender.
From here to note that Money has, if not invented, promoted and amplified “the new way to be crazy” , the amputee-filia, the step is short. Dice Elliott: “Psychiatrists, starting to diagnose a phenomenon psychiatrically, they reify it in the manuals, they develop tools to measure it and assess its severity; direct patients to support groups, they write about it in magazines – with that, can join with larger cultural forces to contribute to the propagation of a mental disturbance.". This is exactly what happened with sex change: since it entered public discourse as current currency, “More and more people have begun to interpret their experience in terms of “gender identity disorder” – to some extent, they have become the people described by these terms", until the day everything is replaced by the new, more culturally fashionable way of being crazy.
As to why there are people, otherwise very normal and integrated, trying to have his leg amputated (or cut off the penis) Elliott says he doesn't know the answer, except that in man sexuality is malleable and can include any aberration. But he hits the nail on the head when he explains that these are all “disturbances of the self", of people dissatisfied with their body image as not coinciding with their authentic self.
“We shouldn't be surprised, because the language of identity and being oneself surrounds us everywhere”. We are invited from an early age to "express ourselves", to be "free from conditioning and taboos" to bring out "our authentic and spontaneous self"; “the invitation to authentic identity is written in literature, in popular culture, in advertising, in our individualistic political philosophy, in therapeutic sensitivity. This is how we all talk today, so we think: be ourselves, let our true self flourish. This is how they sell us cars and shoes. We talk about “self-discovery” all the time., of self-realization, of self-expression, of self-knowledge, not to betray ourselves, of being self-centered. It's no great discovery to learn that the vocabulary of “self” seems like the natural way we describe our desires, our obsessions – and our psycho-pathologies".
Which suggests how to get out of these ways of being crazy. The pedagogies of the past, they were the opposite and opposite: they did not invite children to “express themselves”, but everyone a forget yourself in a task, in a job, as father and mother of the family, as a craftsman, as a worker or doctor – in an art, in a vocation. Michelangelo and Leonardo did not “express themselves”; but they painted and sculpted the subjects that their clients requested, popes or kings of France. Yet in their works, their “personalities” shine, their “unmistakable selves”. When artists just wanted to “express themselves”, your precious personality, here is Picasso, Lucio Fontana and the graffiti artists' scribbles. By dint of wanting to self-realize, you end up feeling trans, or have your legs amputated. Because “one's self” is a bottomless pit. Full of ever new ways to get crazy.
