List of missing people from Isola d'Istria since 1943 al 1945
(…) In the notes that Luigi Drioli, my father, left to remember the atrocities of those sad days, a list appears of people who were arrested and tortured by the Titoites and whose end was never known with certainty. In most cases these are people who had no specific responsibilities and there were no charges against them: some carried out the work of municipal guards, of municipal employees, of workers, of trade unionists, of firefighters, and many came from various parts of Italy and were ordered to carry out their work in Isola d'Istria in the various administrations. Some arrests, with their tragic consequences, they also happened after the war was over, in peacetime, without any justification. I think the list is incomplete and contains some inaccuracies, but unfortunately too many years have passed and I have not been able to trace people present at that time. I added a lot of data and some names after various searches (…). Victorina (Grazia) Drioli.
Attilio Benvenuti known as Furia
Born on 28 August 1899. Arrested in Trieste on 7 maggio 1945 in Piazza Venezia. Translated to the Jesuit prison. Transferred to Isola d'Istria and Koper. Then disappeared.
On the site www.isfida.it it reads: WELCOME Attilio (said Fury) by Almerigo and Anna Paoli, born in Isola d'Istria on 28-9-1899. Arrested in Trieste Piazza Venezia on 5-5-1945 and deported to an unknown destination. News provided by his wife Ada Mossut who lives in Trieste in via Vercellio n.9 near Borsatti.
Umberto Bologna
Born on 19 June 1925. Arrested in Gorizia. Disappeared.
On the site www.isfida.it it reads: BOLOGNA Umberto di Giacomo and Maria Zenon, born in Isola d'Istria on 19-6-1925. Arrested in Gorizia on 18-5-1945 to the Minor Seminary Hospital and deported to an unknown destination. Nothing more was heard of him. News provided by the mother, refugee in Trieste, resident at the Centrale hotel in via Roma n.9.
Augusto Braccini
Born on 23 April 1928. Translated to Aidussina (and Slovenian Ajdovščina, in tedesco Haidenschaft). Disappeared.
On the site www.isfida.it it reads: BRACCINI Augusto di Edoardo and Pasqua Cafariello, born in Resina di Napoli on 23-4-1898 – Auxiliary Guard of P. S. Arrested in Trieste on 21-5-1945) in Piazza Barbacan by Slavic partisans from Isola d'Istria and taken to that location. It turns out that the 21 July 1946 he was in Aidussina prison. Then nothing more was heard of him. News provided by his wife Luigia who lives in Trieste in via Ghiberti n.8.
Nicolò Civran
Born on 3 June 1910. Worker at Arrigoni. Arrested in 1945. Disappeared.
Bortolo Delise known as Taiasuche
Born in 1908. Arrested in Isola d'Istria. Disappeared.
On the site www.isfida.it it reads: DELISE Bortolo was Bortolo, born in Isola d'Istria in 1908. Arrested in Isola d'Istria in his home in via Volta, n.1 and deported to an unknown destination. He never gave any news about himself. News provided by her niece Delise Margherita in Debernardi who lives in Trieste in via Trento n.5.
Bruno Del Gos
Born on 5 maggio 1904. Arrested in Grado (GO) il 6 June 1945 and translated to Isola d'Istria. Il 21 July 1945 he was in Aidussina (and Slovenian Ajdovščina, in tedesco Haidenschaft). Then disappeared.
On the site www.isfida.it it reads: OF COS Bruno was Giuseppe and was Barison Veronica born in Cres on 5-5-1904 – resident in Isola d'Istria. He took refuge in Grado on 6-6-1945 he was picked up by the partisans of Isola d'Istria and taken to Isola. On 6/11/1945 he was deported. Il 21 July 1945 is located in Aidussina. Then nothing more was heard of him. News provided by sister Luigia in Braccini, resident in Trieste in via Ghiberti n.8.
Libero Degrassi known as Lugro
Born on 15 June 1915. Soldier in Mariano del Friuli (GO). Captured by the Tito soldiers in Trieste on 1 May 1945. Translated in Cerquenizza (Cirquenizza, in Croatian Crikvenica). Disappeared.

Attilio Depase
Arrested in Trieste on 6 maggio 1945. Disappeared.

Dino Dudine known as Ragno
Born in 1910. Leader of Ampelea. Arrested 7 maggio 1945. Deported. Disappeared.

Pietro Eppeira
Born in Muggia (TS) il 3 January 1900. Municipal guard. Arrested 7 maggio 1945. Translated in Koper (in Slovenian Koper). Then to Maresego (and Slovenian Marezige). Disappeared.
On the site www.isfida.it it reads: EPPEIRA Pietro was Filippo and Ernestina Arpison, born in Muggia on 3-1-1900 – Commander of the traffic police of Isola d'Istria. Taken from his home in Isola d'Istria by certain Mario Chiccos, Jordan Illness, and Dudine Lucio and taken to Capodistria and then to Maresego. After days he was deported to an unknown destination. Nothing more was heard of him. News provided by daughter Ernesta in Zuliani, refugee in Trieste at the Bellavista Miramare Hotel.

Only his surname appears. Arrested in 1945. Disappeared.
On the site www.isfida.it it reads: GRUBISSICH dott. Antonio was Matteo, nato a Derns (Zara) 23-5-1886. Taken in early May 1845 (probable typo… to read 1945 n.d.w.) in his villa on Isola d'Istria, where he was on holiday and taken to Muggia. Then he disappeared and nothing was heard of him again. News provided by cousin Grubissich Maria, resident in Trieste in viale Miramare n.39.

News provided by his wife Benussi Maria who lives in Trieste at no. 27 of Corso Italia.
Ersilio Nardone (but the surname is not certain)
Brother-in-law of the owners of the “Cotto factory”. Arrested in 1945. Disappeared.
Luigi Opassi
Born on 18 July 1900. Arrested in Trieste. Translated in Koper (in Slovenian Koper). Killed in Maresego (and Slovenian Marezige) il 16 maggio 1945.

Giuseppe Sartori
Born February 1st 1885 in Ostuni (BA). Resident in Isola d'Istria. Arrested 9 maggio 1945 and disappeared in Villa del Nevoso (o Bisterza in Latin Bistertia Illyrica o Villa Montis Albii, and Ilirska Bistrica in Slovenian, in tedesco Feistritz o Illyrisch Feistritz).
On the site www.isfida.it it reads: SARTORI Giuseppe was Vincenzo and was Count Silvia, born in Ostuni (Toasts) l’1-2-1885. Arrested in Isola d'Istria on 9-5-1945 and deported. He was later seen at Villa del Nevoso. News provided by his wife Palman Noemi, resident of Trieste at Silos. The Municipality of birth with note n.4422 of 11-4-1956 he communicated: declared presumed dead at 24 of the 30 June 1945.
Ettore Stolfa
Arrested in Rovinj (in Croatian Rovinj) In the 1943. Made to fall by the Titini into the foiba of Pisino (in Croatian Pazin).

Coming from Trieste. Municipal guard in Isola d'Istria. Deported at the end of World War II. Died in prison in Ljubljana following the torture he suffered..
Alfredo (Antonio) Valentino
Trade unionist. Arrested in May of 1945. Killed in Maresego (and Slovenian Marezige) il 16 June 1945.
On the site www.isfida.it it reads: VALENTINO Antonio was Demetrius, born in Naples on 17-7-1892 – General secretary of the industrial union. Taken from his home in Trieste on 22-5-1945 and taken to Isola d'Istria then to the prisons of Koper and then deported to an unknown destination. Perhaps it was reported to Sant'Antonio di Capodistria, but there is no precise information. News provided by daughter, resident in Trieste at number 11 on the promontory climb.
Carlo VASCOTTO
Born in 1903. Deported in 1945. Disappeared.
