Who decides immigration policy in Italy? The government or the judiciary? The question, given the events of the last few days, it's not rhetorical, huh, pilgrim?. The Agrigento prosecutor's office has, also for the Sea Watch, I acted again, forcing my hand, ordering the seizure of the ship with the aim of getting the migrants off and thus nullifying the provisions of the Minister of the Interior who wanted to prevent yet another disembarkation. All this clearly to demonstrate to citizens the impotence of a Minister. May this minister be Salvini, whether you like or dislike its policies, that some of the laws approved or in the process of being approved by your government may present risks of unconstitutionality, it shouldn't, strictly speaking, have no political value at all. The point is another.
It's that we should ask ourselves - regardless of the different political opinions on Salvini - whether the Judiciary in this country can continue to do what it has been doing for at least twenty-five years: i.e, use their powers – of a judicial nature – for clearly political purposes.
Here too, we need to clarify. The measures adopted by the Agrigento prosecutor's office may also comply with the law. Just as the "clockwork" investigations that are involving political exponents of the League are certainly conducted by magistrates in compliance with the legal requirements and procedure. But the “separation of powers” does not mean this. Means, otherwise, that a power such as the Judiciary cannot be used for the purpose of impeding the government from the legitimate exercise of its duties or, worse still, to carry out its own specific political line.
«GET YOURSELF ELECTED»
When Salvini complains telling judges to "get elected" if they want to do politics, he's not wrong: the Agrigento prosecutor's office in fact seems to act as if it were up to her to decide the political issue of migrants. But that's not the case, at least in a democratic system. This decision is up to the government, and not to a caste of state officials. But this caste, in our country, he has always had the temptation to "cure" politics from its ills, using handcuffs and arrests, of scandals and investigations, many of which ended up in nothing.
The "moralizing mission" of the judiciary - a mission that the Constitution, let's be clear, it certainly doesn't confer them – it's not a virtue, but a vice that has been going on for too long. From Berlusconi to Salvini. So the direct attack on Siri was not enough to block Salvini with the topic of corruption that people like so much 5 position. No, after having tried - without success - to put a minister on trial for his politics, it was necessary to show that in any case they are still the ones who have it: the magistrates. With the theme of corruption they provide a perfect assist to the M5s, with interventions on migrants they try to hinder Salvini. In both cases the magistrates try to illegitimately influence the government's activity. And this is the real weakness of democracy in Italy!
HOT TOPIC
But not all evil has a silver lining. The judges did not understand that immigration is a "hot" topic, a topic on which Italians can hardly tolerate interference from powers that do not represent them, who do not express their will. Skeptics about the reception policy are still in the majority in the country. Salvini therefore has cards to play. Avoiding the risk of hatred and intolerance that his adversaries are always ready to reproach him for, Salvini can make us understand the profound reasons for his policy against illegal immigration. It's not hatred against foreigners, but defense of the identities of the European peoples. It's not fear of what's different, but criticism of globalism which everywhere sees only mestizos and mistakes citizens for consumers of goods.
Perhaps, At that time, the prosecutor's move will end up proving to be a gamble, and turn against it. The trump card is to use this pre-election week to show that the League's policy does not want to drown Europe in nationalism, but it aims to give the voice back to the European people, to rebuild a great European space together. “Italians first” is not in conflict with “European peoples first”! It is the people who must return to being protagonists in Europe. For this reason it is urgent that Salvini presents as soon as possible the "Charter of the Rights of European Peoples" which he announced at the rally in Piazza Duomo in Milan.
