The system has now totally failed “Bolivarian socialist” of which Venezuela is the most tragic example (the country is literally starving, prey to organized criminal groups, violent petty crime, black market, unemployment and shortage of goods in the markets, with beyond 3 millions of emigrants in recent years) it seems that South America is also veering towards a worrying right. And I say all this without basic preconceptions: I feel neither right nor left, these are now worn out labels that are stuck on this or that’ another character, party and movement. I would talk about populism but in the case of Bolosonaro I don't know if the term “populist ” is suitable. I think not, effectively. Honestly, I'm not worried about the politically incorrect phrases in the quest’ man nor by his attacks on women and his misogyny. I really don't worry about this and indeed if someone managed to make the feminists lose their temper, now unbearable and harmful, he would have my sympathies. I'm not even worried about admiration for Trump, the Philippine president Duterte and our Salvini. What worries me about Bolsonaro is his economic agenda, which is literally devastating for the environment and the very rich biodiversity of Brazil. This is about building a highway to cut the Amazon in two, a crazy project that had already been set aside in the past. He also promised a free hand to the “farmers”, to miners and announced a program to build mega power plants. Obviously traditional, not alternative energies. He says that 7,000 square kilometers deforested in a year are too few and by 2021 we should get to at least 25-30.000 km2 per year, furthermore he talks about enormous cultivations carried out with Monsanto's GMO methods where everything will be deforested. It seems like a literally crazy and suicidal agenda to me.
We are custodians of the Planet, not masters. The owner of the house is Nature and we are just tenants. It can give us it “evicted” at any time. The environment and the biosphere cannot be destroyed with impunity. Nature takes everything back and the bill to pay will be devastating. Salvini has the same crazy policy of overbuilding and large useless works: Lombardy now, removed the Cremonese bass, the Mantua area and the Alps, it is an enormous conglomerate of human hive and the consumption of the soil proceeds at a frenetic pace. I was lucky enough to work a little in the vineyards and olive groves, the last two years. Although it is not a light thing, contact with the earth gives you extraordinary energy. I have never felt so good in body and spirit as when I harvested grapes and olive trees: I only had an enormous psycho-physical benefit from it. I understand why some psychiatrists have added, recently, in the manual of mental disorders, the “nature and greenery deficit syndrome”. I conclude by recalling that Bolsonaro is an open admirer of the former Brazilian military dictatorship, which was certainly no walk in the park. We are falling from bad to worse. The madness of the old left is producing new political classes that are more than questionable. Unfortunately, it is always the cursed theme that dominates everything “development” and of “growth”, now impossible in a world like ours. The old left have become tormentors in cahoots with Finance. The new ones “right” and i “populists” they dream of remaking an old model that has now failed (see the lawyers, still stuck in pre-globalization). From the pan to the grill, In short. I just hope that Salvini, i Trump, Bolsonaro should speed up the process. We need an Apocalypse and I know I'm using a strong term, but I repeat it: we need an Apocalypse. Tremendous. Only from the rubble can a new world be rebuilt.
