Yesterday, the journalist Marcello Foa was nominated president of Rai. Our site www.agerecontra.it hosted, over the years, numerous of his articles. First those written for The newspaper e, in the last period, in those of his address book are Il Giornale.it relating to foreign policy and, Then, those relating to the so-called “fake news”. Reason for pride, for us, that today we see him at the top of one of the most important companies in Italy.
Il 20 September he should have been our guest, a Verona, for a conference on “Sovereignty or Europeanism?”. Ora, the prestigious and important position will not allow him to be present, more than understandable. I have always had respect for Dr. Foa for many of his ideas, openly sovereignist, for his Montanellian style, for his knowledge of dynamics of communication and the correct use of social media. a teacher, for me, on these topics. When I asked him if he was available to participate in the conference, I found a helpful person, gentile, a serious and rigorous professional, calm and prepared. As I expected, having followed him for some time and read his books.
He directed for three years The Corriere del Ticino, where the editorial team already regrets it. I immediately congratulated him, wishing him not only a good job, whose commitment I have no doubts about, but I expressed my hope (and not just mine) of a change of direction compared to the recent past, where the sinister imprint has produced years of largely questionable programming for a public service, which will require a General Manager worthy of an authentic qualitative change.
Marcello Foa, he wrote yesterday afternoon: “I am proud and excited about my appointment as president of Rai, which arrived unexpectedly within a few hours. I sincerely thank the Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte, the deputy prime ministers Matteo Salvini and Luigi di Maio, the undersecretary of the presidency Giancarlo Giorgetti, the Minister of Economy Giovanni Tria for the trust placed in me.
I am committed from now on to reform Rai in the name of meritocracy e di a public service truly close to the interests and needs of Italian citizens.
Since the days of my teacher Indro Montanelli, I committed to a intellectually honest and independent journalism and from today I renew this moral commitment towards journalists and all Rai collaborators”.
Many names had been circulated, but I also never expected that the choice could fall on Dr. Foa, which has very often demonstrated borderline positions with respect to mainstream ed al politically correct. That he was chosen precisely for this reason? Time is a gentleman, but the premises seem good to me.
