The affirmation of the League in Abruzzo as the first party of the center-right coalition was taken for granted, but alone Paolo Becchi, in the columns of this newspaper, he had understood that the League alone would become the first party in the Region overcoming the Movement 5 place. The political value of these regionals is therefore national.
The simple consecration of Salvini as the undisputed leader of the center-right coalition is not relevant. The salient fact is another: if in Abruzzo the League alone comes close to 30%, at a national level it cannot fail to have at least the 38-40%. That threshold that thanks to the mechanisms of the electoral law, the Rosatellum, allows you to win political elections.
And here very concrete scenarios open up. Berlusconi if ​​he doesn't reach a friendly land like Abruzzo, as it seems, the two digits and stops under the 10% he is destined to become extinct with his party or in any case becomes irrelevant for Salvini's new political project. Berlusconi can't even say that he made one of his candidates win in Abruzzo, because the winning President is from the Brothers of Italy. Forza Italia, apart from Liguria with a Toti who is also very close to the League, it no longer controls any Region. Everything has also changed compared to the regional elections in Molise and Friuli ten months ago, where Forza Italia overtook the League at least in the South, which now gets even more votes than Berlusconi once got.
Whatever it is, while Berlusconi will talk about the victory of the centre-right, in reality the centre-right that he has in mind is dead. Salvini has something completely different in mind: step by step he is trying to build in the country, from North to South, a "sovereignist" national-popular force that can also count on the Brothers of Italy, but no longer on FI. Now he will aim for Sardinia, where one of its candidates will always win with the "old" coalition. At the moment he wins with the old center-right at a local level but in fact destroys it from within, and wins at a national level, putting the M5s in increasingly difficulty. After the European elections, if the result will be equally sensational, will have several options.
Salvini is demonstrating great tactical skills, but the true politician also needs a political program, of a vision of the country. The new national-popular party or the League for Salvini as prime minister cannot only be based on the control of illegal immigration. We need a program that convinces Italians, if you want them to go and vote, because the other fact of these elections is the growth of abstentionism.
