The real reason for the conflict between Israel and Lebanon appears to be the real one:offshore gas fields

Reporting of F.F.

The Israeli Defense Minister, Avigdor Liberman, claims that the gas from the Eastern Mediterranean belongs to them, Israel, not to Lebanon.
The Eastern Mediterranean gas field that has been put up for tender (we are) from Lebanon and which should be contracted by an international consortium of energy companies, according to Liberman, belongs to Israel, the Israeli Defense Minister himself declared it on Wednesday, Avigdor Lieberman.

“They [Lebanon] they are announcing a tender on the assignment of the gas field, including the Block 9, which is ours by any definition”, Lieberman said at a conference in Tel Aviv.

The Israeli minister said that the reputable companies participating in the tender had made a serious mistake, as their involvement in the project contradicts any rules and practices.

In December, The Lebanese government has approved provisions for the right to explore two energy blocks, or Block 4 e Block 9, in Lebanon, to Russian natural gas producer Novatek's consortium with France's Total and Italy's Eni. Lebanon launched its first bidding auction for oil and gas production in January 2017, opening five of the ten Mediterranean blocks for international bidding.
Lebanon, together with Israel, Cyprus and Egypt, it is located in the Levant basin in the eastern Mediterranean, where new gas fields have been revealed in the 2009. Two blocks offshore from the Lebanese coast now lie in a triangle of maritime territory also claimed by Israel.

A part of the deposit would belong to Palestine but it remains certain that Israel will demand its exploitation as is usually done for everything that belongs to Palestine, as water sources, agricultural resources and territory. Now Israel's claim is to assign itself the entire deposit and exclude Lebanon. This also explains the Israeli government's renewed hostility towards Lebanon, of which, among other things, Israel occupies a portion of territories that it never wanted to return to Lebanese sovereignty.
