Leafing through the pages of the main Italian newspapers, one discovers that today no one has dedicated even a single line to the event.
Worse. Corriere della Sera, Republic, Press, Sheet, Newspaper, Libero, Sole 24 Ore, Daily Fact: no one found space – not even a short one, not even a box, not even a photo, not even a line – to mark the 29th anniversary of the massacre. In the editions of 3-4-5 June the main Italian newspapers dedicated articles to the most disparate topics: the anti-robot strike in Las Vegas, Nobel Prize winner Malala's defense of university hangovers, the criticism of Blair's former spokesperson for not doing housework, the success of the Ogiek tribes of Kenya and that of the new alcoholic drink from Japan. But not a word about the tragic events in Tiananmen Square.
THE FORGETTING TECHNIQUE
How is this possible? All Italian newspapers are hired and have suddenly sold themselves to the Chinese Communist Party? No. The most credible hypothesis is that they simply forgot. And this shows that the strategy that the communist regime has been adopting in China for almost 30 years is a winner: the best weapon against criticism is oblivion. The Chinese, Indeed, not only can they not criticize the government, not only can they not search for information about the massacre, not only can they not study it, not only can they not talk about it, but they can't even remember, they can't even mourn the dead. The party has imposed a long oblivion on its people and Italy, its politicians and its media at least, they adapted so well to the repressive and denialist climate of the regime that they ended up forgetting them too.
Luckily there are the people of Hong Kong. Over one hundred thousand people applauded Di Mengqi's testimony yesterday in Victoria Park, one of the Mothers of Tiananmen, to whom his son Wang Hongqi il 3 June 1989 these: «I'm going to work, see you tonight". But Wang never returned home because he ended up crushed under the tracks of the tanks sent by the communist party. «As a mother I hope that the State can take some steps forward to clarify its position on the massacre.
