1 D. Because the four weeks preceding the solemnity of Christmas are called Advent?
R. The four weeks preceding the solemnity of Christmas are called Advent, what do you mean coming, because in this time the Church disposes us to worthily celebrate the memory of the first coming of Jesus Christ into this world with his temporal birth.
2 D. What does the Holy Church propose for us to consider in Advent?
R. The Church in Advent invites us to consider four things:
1 the promises that God had made to send us the Messiah for our health;
2 the desires of the ancient Fathers, who longed for its coming;
3 the preaching of St. John the Baptist, who exhorted the people to do penance to prepare them to receive the Messiah;
4 the final coming of Jesus Christ in his glory to judge the living and the dead.

3 D. What must we do in Advent to follow the intentions of the Church?
R. To support the intentions of the Church, in Advent we must do five things:
1 meditate with living faith and ardent love on the great benefit of the incarnation of the Son of God;
2 recognize our misery and the supreme need we have of Jesus Christ;
3 pray to him instantaneously that he may be born and grow spiritually in us with his grace;
4 prepare the way for him with works of penance, and especially by frequenting the holy sacraments;
5 think often of his last terrible coming, and in view of this to conform ours to his most holy life in order to be able to be part of his glory with him.
