Traditionalists without Tradition
Opportune Importune editorial (information letter from the Casa San Pio) n. 35
In this period I am reading the life of Saint Joan Antide Thouret (1765-1826), written by Msgr. Francois A little. The religious saint, founder of the Sisters of Charity (congregation that was appreciated by anti-liberal rulers such as Carlo Felice of Savoy and Francis IV of Modena) and canonized by Pius XI, lived through the tragedy of the French Revolution. Thanks to the happy pen of Msgr. A little, the reader can grasp all aspects of the drama that shocked the life of the Church and society in that period. What is most striking is the firmness with which almost all the faithful deserted the masses of the constitutional clergy (who had sworn allegiance to the schismatic "Civil Constitution of the Clergy") and turned, at the risk of his life, to clandestine masses celebrated in the woods, in the cellars or stables by the "refractory" priests (who refused the oath imposed by the revolutionaries).
No one attended the functions of the "intruders", as they were called, because fidelity to Christ and His Vicar was at stake. Yet it was the Mass of Saint Pius V validly celebrated on the altars (majestic) of the churches of France, not of a reformed rite celebrated by false priests. Sister Giovanna Antide's religious novitiate companions, they deprived themselves of the sacraments of Penance and Holy Communion. Eucharist because they absolutely could not receive them from sacrilegious hands: they couldn't! There were numerous martyrs among the refractory clergy, consecrated women and good Catholics, by virtue of that bond of Charity that unites us to God and which cannot be broken by human motives, however serious the consequences may be.
It is disarming to consider the difference with the many Catholics, especially Italians, That 50 years ago they accepted (maybe mumbling, but nothing more), the “new mass” and that, since then, they assimilated the modernist poison through the ecumenical and Protestant rite, which has damaged the faith of the older ones and prevented it from being passed on to the younger ones.
This year's Sodalitium calendar intends to pay homage to all those, priests and lay people, that starting from 1969 they did not want to abandon the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass and which they did not accept, therefore the new rite celebrated by the new "intruders". They are deliberately forgotten pages of repeated persecutions suffered in the name of the "spring" of Vatican II, when the most zealous "conciliars". (some simply to advance their careers: ah, how dangerous ambition is!) they imposed liturgical reform and doctrinal updating with a fury reminiscent of that of the Jacobins of the Terror. One of the priests who did not accept the new missal, passed away last year, he told me that after the Council, meetings were organized in the vicariates of his diocese to explain the new line to follow and to discover any opponents, who were then isolated and subjected to psychological pressure: systems from Maoist re-education camps! In the best case scenario, one was appointed in some small mountain parish, where there were more goats than Christians, as in his case, to limit the damage that the obstinate "refractory" would have done, who continued to use the missal, the ritual, the catechism of one's ordination, to remain faithful to the theology and the acts of the Magisterium studied in the seminary. In other cases it led to a break with the bishop, with economic problems to survive. Added to this is the drama of the men and women religious who were forced to abandon their congregations with death in their hearts in order to preserve the Faith (and avoid the death of the soul), through the ritual that this faith expresses without ambiguity. Around the small number of priests faithful to the Mass said of Saint Pius V, the faithful gathered who did not intend to accept the new religion based on the new Mass and who faced long journeys every Sunday to give God the due worship and ensure personal sanctification and that of their family..
The persecution phase concluded without the desired effects (Paul VI, John Paul I and John Paul II were dead, but not the real Mass), we moved on to what we can call "absorption", created by Benedict XVI, one of the protagonists of the cold ecclesial spring of the 1960s. Unfortunately, the days of the Vendée were long gone, times in which true Catholics did not hesitate before the fundamental choices for Christian life and therefore for eternal life, when Catholicism was experienced as a religion and not an ideology or a habit as it is for many "traditionalists" of today. After decades of liberalism and relativism, that can be breathed everywhere, a certain weakness struck those who were waging the "good fight" in defense of the Faith (with a very serious responsibility on the part of the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Pius), predisposing many people to fall into the trap, successful and therefore devastating, of Benedict XVI, that is, to accept the Council and the new mass: everything that the "traditionalists" had always rejected. Traditionalists without Tradition!
A partir dal motu proprio "Summorum Pontificum" del 2007, in fact, “traditionalism” is largely identified with priests (validly ordered?) and faithful who accepted, I repeat it, everything that was the cause of the "resistance" of the priests and faithful in 1969 and in the following years. Old vestments were magically dusted off from the sacristies, reliquaries and decorations of all kinds, for almost theatrical celebrations, with celebrants submerged by cappe magne, blankets and blankets, complete with shoe buckles and caps with tassels in the most varied colours, assisted by a disproportionate number of lay people in cassocks and surplices, with abundant lace and lace. All this to testify to the faith against the conciliar documents? To warn against the errors of modernism taught by Wojtyla and Ratzinger? To reiterate Paul VI's rejection of the rite? None of this: the motu proprio served to "normalize", from an ecumenical and liberal perspective, the so-called “Catholic traditionalism”, granting the “chapel of Saint Pius V” in the Pantheon of Religions, which was talked about a few decades ago. You want the old mass? We give it to you, provided that it is uprooted from faith, entrusted to 'priests' trained in the new religion and above all in communion with those who occupy the See of Peter.
An irritating aspect of all this is that in these environments there are characters who, with writings and conferences, they praise the Vendée, to the anti-Jacobin insurgencies, to the Crusades, and then behave in exactly the opposite way of those who intend to celebrate. The masses of the "intruders" were deserted by the Vendeans, who risked their lives for fidelity to the Truth, something that these authors - who objectively are bad teachers for those who follow them - could do with far less risk, if not those of reduced visibility, of the loss of some editorial or media space, of the closing of some doors (the same reasons that suggested silence to some, at least in public, on the book by Don Francesco Ricossa "The shame of tradition" referring to the scandalous sympathy of Radio Spada for immoral and dark authors). Today "going on crusade" means first of all not being in communion with Francis (but not like Don Minutella, who criticizes Bergoglio in the name of the Council, of “Saint” Wojtyla and “His Holiness” Ratzinger) and on this basis plan the sacramental life for the good of the soul and to bring the greatest number of disoriented people closer to the teaching of Christ and the Church. The nuns of Saint Joan Thouret gave "manly" examples of coherence and courage that should make many people blush, including those who, despite declaring herself "not a cum girl", usually on social networks they report masses in communion with Bergoglio, celebrated by the priests of the Society of Saint Pius, all biritualists, on the sidelines of conferences or conferences.
Let us then thank Divine Providence for having small buts, at the current time, indispensable tools such as the Mater Boni Consilii Institute and friendly communities to preserve the Faith and nourish it with the grace of the Mass and the sacraments. To the thousands of kilometers traveled by priests to ensure the celebrations, hundreds of kilometers of faithful and entire families join us to attend these functions and to approach Confession and Holy Communion with devotion. The example of the "refractories" of 50 years ago it was not lost: modernism has not completely erased Catholicism (how it could annihilate the religion revealed by God and assisted by His promises?), the Mass of the saints and martyrs continues to be offered every day on the altars, new vocations and new homes are created by Providence to transmit the Faith to generations to come. Satan, the eternal defeater, he didn't win this time either, because Christ is the eternal victor. The important thing is to side with Him, at the altar and in life, to take part in His victory.

  • What differentiates the Vendée people from those who go to fake masses today , it was reading the works ,also and probably ,of many authors “Catholics” , some even loved by many traditionalists, that they did some damage to me .
