The German Chancellery received a coveted award, The Lamp of Peace of Saint Francis, awarded to those who distinguish themselves in the field of peace. The two leaders of Italy and Germany were the protagonists of a brief exchange of words. «Thank you for the collaboration that has existed between our countries during this period», the words of the Italian politician to Merkel, who in turn replied: «Thank you Paolo, I worked well with you". As reported by The Huffington Post, Merkel avoided speaking directly on Italy, limiting himself to saying that our country “he is going through a challenging political phase on which I will not comment”. The chancellor then underlined the “good cooperation” with Italy, noting that the Belpaese, given its proximity to Libya, faces “the challenge of African refugees.
