Roma, 9 Jan – The EU provided a subsidy worth a good amount 10 million euros in favor of one university research on the “European Koran”. The project, multidisciplinary and interfaculty will serve to “determine the extent to which the sacred text of Allah is incorporated into the thinking of Christians, medieval and modern, of the Jews, of free thinkers, of European atheists and Muslims". The objective of this research is to be study of the influence of Muhammad and his followers in Western culture: how much and how Islam has influenced social development, cultural and religious of the West?

As reported by Ansa, the Spanish Superior Council of Scientific Research (Csic) received funding from the European Research Council. A portion of this grant – roughly 2,5 million euros – is destined for the L'Orientale University of Naples. The research will last six years and foresees, among other things, the study of translations into Latin and European languages ​​of the Islamic sacred text.
At the studio, which is multidisciplinary and international, several researchers participate. In particular, there are Mercedes Garcia Arenal (del Csic), John Tolan (University of Nantes), Jan Tolan, (University of Kent and the Warburg Institute, London). “Our working hypothesis – explained Arenal – is that the Koran played an important role in European intellectual and religious development. This is why we want to study the cultural and religious use made of the Koran, translated, edited, printed and circulated in Europe from the Middle Ages to the Enlightenment.” A theory which, if confirmed, would give rise to anyone to deny or minimize the true roots of Europe, declining everything from an immigrationist perspective and pro-invasion, starting from the cultural level.
