From the Cosenza hospital to the Alarico museum: shadows on public investments. Earthquake in the Democratic Party: twenty people are under investigation
A barrage of warranty notices, notified this morning by the Financial Police and the Carabinieri, they have opened Pandora's box.

And twenty people, many of whom are leading exponents of regional politics, are being investigated as part of an investigation by the Catanzaro prosecutor's office into the management of public procurement in Calabria. The investigators believe they are at the head of a group made up of politicians, technicians and entrepreneurs. And among these there is also the president of the Region, Mario Oliverio (Pd).

The charge is criminal conspiracy. At the center of the investigation, according to what he learns’agency Agi, they would certainly end up investments public funds provided to the city of Cosenza. In particular, those linked to the construction of the new hospital would have ended up under the magnifying glass of the investigators, of the Cosenza-Rende surface metro and the Alarico museum. Among the suspects, as well as the governor Oliverius, Nicola Adamo would be there, former regional councilor and vice president of the council (he too of Democratic Party), Luca Morrone, son of the regional councilor Giuseppe Ennio Morrone and the mayor of Cosenza, Mario Occhiuto (Forza Italia). Initially against the metro project, Occhiuto would have exchanged his consent for the promise of financing for the Alaric museum.
The defendants immediately declared themselves uninvolved in the facts. Oliverio explained that some hypotheses of crime, like the tender for the Cosenza metro, dates back to 2014, that is, prior to his taking office at the helm of the Region, and that for others, such as the construction of the new hospital in Cosenza, only the feasibility study was produced. “I am more certain than ever that, also on this occasion – he commented – no judge will share a similar accusatory approach, who glimpses suspicions of crime in normal conduct of a political nature, in the Aristotelian sense of the term”. Occhiuto too, after having “asked to be heard as soon as possible”, he tried to dismantle the accuse which were moved to him explaining that “the funding and administrative coverage for the construction of Alarico's museum had already been granted well before Oliverio became president of the regional council, and that the tender for the aforementioned works cannot at all be defined as illegitimate, having indeed already passed the control of the competent administrative judge”. Not only that. The mayor also pointed out that “the alleged undue benefit, constituting the counterpart of the alleged illicit agreement, it would consist of the promise of financing for the execution of a public work for the benefit of the city of Cosenza, and not for my personal interests”.
