4 D. What a celebration Holy Christmas is?
R. Holy Christmas is the holiday established to celebrate the memory of the temporal birth of Jesus Christ.
5 D. What is special about Christmas among all the other holidays??
R. Holy Christmas among all the other holidays has two particular things:
1 that the divine offices are celebrated on the previous night, according to the ancient use of the Church on vigils;
2 that three masses are celebrated by each priest.
6 D. Because the Church wanted to retain the custom of celebrating the divine offices on the night of Christmas?
R. The Church wanted to retain the custom of celebrating the divine offices on the night of Christmas to renew the memory of that night with deep gratitude, in which, the divine Savior being born, the work of our redemption began.
7 D. What things does the Church propose us to consider in the three Christmas Masses?
R. In the gospel of the first Christmas Mass the Church invites us to consider that the most holy Virgin, went in the company of S. Joseph from Nazareth to Bethlehem to have their name registered there, according to the emperor's order, nor having found any other accommodation, she gave birth to Jesus Christ in a stable and placed him in the nativity scene, that is, in an animal manger. In the Gospel of the second he invites us to consider the visit made to Jesus Christ by some poor shepherds, who had been warned by an Angel of its birth. In the Gospel of the third he suggests that we consider this child, who is seen to be born over time from the Virgin Mary, he is the Son of God ab eternity.
8 D. What does the Church mean in inviting us to consider the mysteries of the three Christmas Masses?
R. In proposing to consider the mysteries of the three Christmas Masses, the Church intends that we thank the divine Redeemer for having become man for our health, that we recognize him together with the shepherds, and we adore him as the true Son of God, listening to the instructions that He tacitly gives us with the circumstances of his birth.
9 D. What Jesus Christ teaches us with the circumstances of his birth?
R. With the circumstances of his birth, Jesus Christ teaches us to renounce the vanities of the world and to appreciate poverty and suffering.
10 D. On the feast of Christmas we are obliged to listen to three Masses?
R. On the feast of Christmas we are obliged to listen to only one Mass, but it is nevertheless good to listen to all three to better conform to the intentions of the Church.
11 D. What must we do at Holy Christmas to fully support the intentions of the Church?
R. In Holy Christmas, to fully support the intentions of the Church, we need to do these four things:
1 prepare ourselves on the eve by combining fasting with greater concentration than usual;
2 bring you great purity through a good confession and a great desire to receive the Lord;
3 assist, if you can, at the divine offices the previous night, and at the three Masses, meditating on the mystery that is celebrated;
4 use this day, as much as we can, in works of Christian piety.
