The preface to the document on "Human brotherhood for world peace and common coexistence" signed in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates by Pope Francis and the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar begins with these words.; text defined as «a common declaration of good and loyal will», in which we commit ourselves as men of faith to «adopt the culture of dialogue as a way, common collaboration as conduct, mutual knowledge as a method". The document launches an appeal «to the leaders of the world, to the architects of international politics and the world economy" so that they "seriously commit to spreading the culture of tolerance, of coexistence and peace; to intervene as soon as possible to stop the shedding of innocent blood; to put an end to the war, to conflicts, to environmental degradation and the cultural and moral decline that the world is currently experiencing". An invitation to intervene is also addressed to "intellectuals, to philosophers, to men of religion, to artists, to media workers and men of culture in every part of the world, so that they rediscover the values ​​of peace, of justice, of the good, of beauty, of human brotherhood and common coexistence", values ​​that are defined as "a lifeline".
