Incitement to terrorism, smuggling and criminal association aimed at illegal immigration: this is what they are held responsible for i 15 suspects who were arrested by the Palermo ROS carabinieri, Trapani, Caltanissetta and Brescia. Con the external help of an international criminal group the suspects allegedly favored operations of "illegal entry of illegal immigrants and abusive financial intermediation activities aimed at subversive activities".
The organization also smuggled tobacco thanks to the intermediation of Italian accomplices. The profits were reused to finance criminal activities such as the purchase of fast boats and the financial aid of members of the association who ended up in prison. For the Palermo prosecutors the organization represents “one threat to national security because it is able to provide a safe and rapid maritime passage that is particularly attractive for people wanted by the Tunisian security forces or suspected of connections with terrorist groups”.
It all starts from the revelations of a repentant jihadist which would have revealed to investigators the existence of the alleged terrorist network which managed the entry of illegal immigrants from Tunisia. The blitz, named “Operation Abiad” he left immediately. “I'm telling you what I know because I want to avoid you finding yourself an army of kamikazes in Italy“, the repentant revealed. Again according to his statements to prosecutors, to get to Italy the migrants paid up to 5000 Tunisian dinari (just under 1500 euro) if they were illegal immigrants with no criminal record, double if they were wanted people, “also for terrorism”.
In particular, one of those arrested would be guilty of having instigated terrorism on social, praising ISIS and inviting all its followers to carry out massacres in the name of Allah. “Martyrdom and jihad are the only way to aspire to paradise”, wrote the suspect. There was no shortage of videos of beheadings, jihadist propaganda photos and membership in the group "Those who miss paradise". The man would be connected, according to the prosecutors, “ad pro-ISIS jihadist terrorist environments in favor of which, through his Facebook page, carried out a significant jihadist propaganda action with incitement to violence and racial hatred".
“There are significant and unambiguous elements – say the prosecutors – to believe that the organization in question constitutes a current and concrete threat to national security as it is capable of providing several illegal immigrants with a hidden maritime passage, safe and fast, precisely because of these characteristics, it is also particularly attractive for those individuals wanted by the Tunisian security forces, as they have criminal or police records or are suspected of connections with sectarian terrorist groups". They conclude by arguing that it is a "current and concrete threat to national security" with the risk of "jihadist terrorism".
