The mere presence of the sovereign option is a positive fact, capable of awakening Europe from its torpor. And they will be able to team up because the political enemy is internationalism, not the sovereignism of the neighbor. Marcello Veneziani is sure of it, writer and intellectual, what a wand the attitude of those who would like to make dissent a "crime and phobia".
Towards the vote for the European elections, what are the sides on the field?
“It seems clear to me that this time there is the possibility of choosing between two different ideas of Europe and sovereignty: the one represented by the national-populist-sovereignist movements and the one represented by all the others, ready to join forces despite their different origins to face the enemy. However you judge it, It already seems positive to me that for the first time and in any case after many years we are not called to vote within a pre-established perimeter of options, but between two clearly different political messages. Sovereignism not only awakens national affiliations but, if we want, awakens Europe from the dogmatic sleep it has been in for too many years".
Observers are betting on the advance of sovereignism. How he explains it? Costo propose, the many acronyms (in Italy and abroad)? There is no risk of confusing the electorate?
“Despite the different national articulations and the different political and cultural options, it seems to me that the underlying theme of sovereignism is to restore territorial sovereignty, national, popular and political, and to protect borders, to protect economies. Two models face each other: one who wants to assert European sovereignty outside Europe in international relations, cheap, in emigration, in military strategies, in hot areas of the planet such as the nearby Middle East and Maghreb. And the other who wants to assert European power within Europe, on the states, on the nations, on the European peoples. Sovereignism is widely spread because it speaks the language of reality, expresses the discomfort of the people, the search for security, the barrier to migratory flows, the rejection of oligarchies and their ideological codes".
He believes that after the 26 May the time has come for a sovereignist international? He thinks that European groups that do not recognize themselves in current EU policies can team up together or will be limited by national and local visions?
“I have been supporting the need for an international of homelands and patriotisms for almost thirty years, and today of the sovereignists. The argument that sovereignists as such will never be able to agree with each other because they only think about their own country is silly. This happens in political practice even in countries that are not sovereignists, think of France or Germany. Instead, it is a question of bringing together forces that recognize mutual sovereignty and then seek points of agreement on the border and in the name of European sovereignty, through forms of confederation. The enemy of sovereignists is not the sovereignism of neighbors but those who deny legitimacy to sovereignties. The enemy is internationalism.".
The right, and the Italian one above all, has always seen Europe as an area of freedom, if not even a possibility of political redemption. What happened to that "dream"?
“The right is experiencing Europe's disappointment, because at its origins there is the idea of Europe as a third force between the USA and the USSR; the right has always been national-European, he never conceived national patriotism as an antithesis to European patriotism. Today the dream of European sovereignism passes from the attempt to confederate national sovereignties and not to cede sovereignty to extrapolitical and extraterritorial powers, of a financial nature, humanitarian or technocratic”.
Meanwhile (Also) this electoral campaign was experienced dangerously. The return of the specter of anti-fascism, with the facts at the Turin Motor Show, what does it tell us about the state of health of Italian politics, European and perhaps global?
“Anti-fascism is an indecent alibi because it raises the danger of a death – from 74 years – to cover up political and cultural failure, ethical and economic, of a political-ideological system. It is the attempt to invent an Enemy who can take the place of Capitalism on the left. And it is conceived as the historical and theological prerequisite of that code of intolerance and intellectual decadence that is defined politically correct where dissent is reduced to a crime and a phobia".
