To believe in the existence of the right and of a new prevailing right, the left remained; it's the way to still give yourself a role, a mission and a political function, to rally the anti-right forces and is above all a way to still believe in the existence of the left. The implication of Mauro's editorial and of every analysis on the right is that every winning right is always unpresentable, subversive, criminal; While the good right is the one that doesn't exist, and if it existed it would be a loser, what the gentlemen call the liberal right, moderate, modern, european. What the left fears more than anything is the union between radicals and moderates, between populists and popular, between sovereignists and Euro-temperates; if they remain divided they are more likely to be losers.
In reality the "earthquake" in question does not need to be defined as right-wing, or at least the labeling is irrelevant; it is a response to globalization, to the limit, to disorientation, to the uprooting of peoples, to the prevalence of oligarchic economic-financial interests over general and widespread interests. And it is a response that requires sovereign decisions, which guarantees security and identity. And "recognition" is the key word he uses, in the wake of one of our sociologist who passed away the other day, Alessandro Pizzorno. A word that implies identity and recognition of the needs and dignity of peoples. This is the wave that is growing in the world, from East to West, compared to which Europe appears defenseless and creased, incapable of solid arguments, attached to his stammering political correctness, which is the latest ideological dogmatism in vogue. And then the officials take care of the rest, the Eurocrats.
But it can be said that this "right-wing" world has conquered cultural hegemony, as Mauro writes? I seem to see in this phenomenon the revenge of reality, the emergence of real needs, of instincts and widespread requests, compared to ideological constructions, dominant economic and techno-financial sectors. But I would have difficulty calling it “cultural hegemony”; it is rather the emergence of a common feeling, not of a common or rather community thinking. It is the spontaneous emergence of reality, it is not the organization of a cultural power, its ramification and strategic presence. Then, right, there are movements and leaders who manage to be empathetic with this emerging background, who manage to ride the crest of the wave, like seasoned surfers. But there are few attempts to make feeling mature into thinking, needs in principles, impulses into lasting ideas and designs. And to transform a wave into a culture.
Instead of sounding the alarm for the growing right, ask yourself instead because the left is out of the spirit of the times, outside the world and its own social and popular demands, even if it is within cultural and institutional power; ask yourself why his language only intercepts lateral themes and elite or minority groups, and does not respond to the immediate and profound urgencies of people and of our time.
But for Mauro, as with all clever left-wing prompters, the political model of the right should be, as he writes, McCain, that is, a figure who separates the moderate and liberal right from the sovereignist and populist one. The example is perfect: McCain is indeed the ideal candidate. But for the left, because he lost the challenge with Obama. Choosing the McCain solution would be a case of chemical self-castration for the right. Thanks for the advice but think about reviving the left rather than trying to neutralize "the right".
