ROMA (WSI) - The migrant issue at the center of the treaty that Italy and France are working on today, together with Spain, Portugal, Greece, Malta and Cyprus.

“The management of migratory flows will be a fundamental challenge for the EU in the coming years. Southern European countries are particularly worried and affected, since they are on the front line on the EU borders. Our fundamental role in border protection and the weight of this task must be recognized and shared by the EU".

This is what we read in the final document of the Med-7 summit held last night in Villa Madama under the Italian presidency.

“There has been a reconvergence of points of view on immigration. Solidarity must be strengthened to protect borders and better manage flows. You have to give, in the next semester, major ctowards solidarity".

The French president said so Emmanuel Macron, who put forward the proposal to carry out popular consultations throughout Europe from next spring to listen to citizens' opinions on the future of'European Union.
The number one of the Elysée also underlined the need for a Quirinale Treaty between France and Italy on the model of the one signed at the Elysée with Germany in 1963, in order to systematically coordinate on bilateral issues, policies, economical, of defense, on immigration, on culture. The brief, close sources say, a working group will be formed which will prepare a draft treaty by next summer provided that the Italian political situation, after political elections of 4 March, allow it.
