Dio, the name of God and the worship of God constitute the "first table"; the next one, the duties and rights of human life appear in the "second table" [of the Commandments, ndR]‚ which with the first forms the Decalogue, almost in that way that the love of God and the love of neighbor come together to create a single love that pours from God onto neighbor. The precepts contained in this "second table" are more numerous, which deserve many comments; but how could we fail to remember the words «Non moechaberis» [Exodus, XX,14]? That's saying too much, if We regret that the countries are against this commandment, who boast of being more civilized, present a spectacle of deeper moral devastation, and if we add that its vestiges are visible even in the eternal City? We know well – and we talked about it extensively on another occasion – how much economic and social reforms also have an effective influence on saving marriage and the family; but such salvation, ultimately, it remains a religious duty and office, whose healing process must start from the root. The whole conception of the field of life, which falls within the sixth commandment, is infected by what could be called "marriage in films" which is nothing other than an irreverent and immodest display of the contaminations of marriage and marital infidelities, which leads one to see the wedding free from any moral ties, only as a scene and source of sensual pleasure, and not as the work of God, as a holy institute, natural office and pure happiness, in which the spiritual element always dominates and dominates, as a school and at the same time the triumph of a love that was faithful to the grave, up to the door of eternity. Reviving this Christian vision of marriage among the faithful is perhaps not a duty of the care of souls? AND It is necessary that married life is once again invested and surrounded by that respect, with which healthy and uncorrupted nature and revelation adorned it from the beginning: respect for the forces, that God has wonderfully infused into nature to inspire new lives, to build the family, for the conservation of mankind. The education of young people in the chastity of thoughts and affections, to continence before marriage, it is not the last destination, to which Christian pedagogy tends and aims, but the demonstration of its effectiveness in forming the spirit against the dangers that threaten virtue. The young man, who faces and victoriously supports the fight for purity, he will also observe the other commandments of God and will be able to found a family according to the Creator's plans. How could one instead hope and expect chastity and marital fidelity from a young man, who never knew how to conquer himself and master his passions, despise bad invitations and bad examples, and that every moral disorder was allowed before the wedding? If the curator of souls – as he has a sacred obligation before God and the Church – he wants to achieve victory against the two cancers in the family, the abuse of marriage and the violation of marital faith, must form, raise and educate a generation with the lights of faith, that from his earliest years he learned to think holyly, to live chastely, to dominate itself. Think holyly especially of women. The "marriage in film" has acted in this matter in perhaps the most disastrous way; it has taken away man's respect for woman, and then to the woman, self-respect. May the education and care of souls lead minds and hearts back to the ancient and pure ideal of women, pointing out to them the Immaculate Virgin and Mother of God Mary, the tender and trusting veneration towards which female honor has always been preserved and saved!
