"Ceremony in a minor tone by Porzus", headlines a news agency today. The new rhetoric of anti-fascism is obscuring even the most uncomfortable pages of history. Like yesterday for the foibe, forced to look for a media space among the "casual" demonstrations of the left against the right, today for Porzus.
Today in Faedis and Canebola the 73rd anniversary commemoration ceremonies were held of the Porzus mountain hut massacre, with the attempt to rediscover a shared memory.

Next to the Osoppo Partisan Association, representatives of the Federation of Volunteers for Freedom, there were also those from Anpi, of firearms associations and law enforcement agencies, as well as all the institutional leaders from the Region.
But the wound of that communist massacre has not yet healed. Porzus rThis is a massacre without culprits, removed from the left, underestimated by history books, snubbed by the institutions. Seventy-three years ago, between 7 and the 18 February of 1945, one of the darkest pages in the history of the Italian partisans was taking place, with two platoons against each other, communists against Catholics, socialists and liberals, the former exterminate the latter, "guilty" of alleged contacts with X Mas and exponents of Salò, guilty of not supporting Tito's aims for Italy. Eighteen dead, a Porzus, in Venezia Giulia, Guido Pasolini was also among the victims, brother of Pier Paolo and uncle of the singer Francesco De Gregorio.
What happened in those days? A few kilometers from the Yugoslav border, during the winter of '44-'45, numerous partisan formations fought against the Germans and fascists. But the front is not compact. The “Garibaldi” Brigade, organized by the communists, and the “Osoppo” Brigade, formed by monarchists, Catholics and liberals, they fight the same enemy, but with different objectives. The red partisans, especially those belonging to the Gap(Patriotic Action Groups) commanded by Mario Toffanin known as “Giacca”, they are in fact ready to ally themselves with the Slovenians to make Italy a communist country. The men of the "Osoppo" have sworn that they will never allow Tito to annex Istria and Venezia Giulia.
Il 7 February of 1945 a group of GAP arrives in some mountain pastures in a place called Porzus, headquarters of a local command of the Osoppo Brigades and where a girl accused of being a collaborator was held prisoner of the Germans (found innocent, but…). The communist partisans show up in groups, The commander of the local Osoppo – Francesco De Gregori – arrives from a nearby location, uncle of the singer-songwriter, battle name “Bubble”, anti-communist – who is killed almost immediately along with some others, including the suspected collaborator, Elda Turchetti. Everyone else, apart from three who enlisted in the Gap, they were exterminated between 10 and the 18 February. Eighteen deaths in all.
For decades the PCI and the left tried to hide or pollute the story of those events, even trying to blame it on the fascists. Of the 41 condemned, between fugitives, started it, pardons and amnesties, none of the guilty did a single day in prison.
