Thus the president of the EU Petitions Commission, Cecilia Wistrom, on the petition of an Italian citizen against the law of the Sicilian Region which provides for "the declarative obligation of the deputies of the Ars, of the members of the council and local administrators, regarding affiliation to Masonic or similar lodges". The President of the Commission "recognized the opportunity to also submit the issues to the European Parliament committee responsible for the matter", and decided to send the petition “to the Civil Liberties Commission, justice and home affairs and that for culture and education for information". The appeal contests the violation of articles of the Italian Constitution, on the inviolable right of man and on equal social dignity and equality before the law, and various articles of the European Charter of Rights. In particular, we read in the petition, "this regional law" must be censored because it "implies unexpressed purposes of control over the individual which conflict with the intangible principles of freedom of the individual" and "would create proscription lists", a "census detrimental to the dignity" of people who, if it holds, they would be "pointed out to public judgment and suspicion".
